Evernote for Windows: PDF Indexing, Improved Stability
August 20th, 2008
Last week, we released the latest version of Evernote for Windows. This release includes some new features and a slew of stability improvements.

Stability
The latest build dramatically improves the stability of the Windows client –fewer bugs, fewer crashes, more goodness. It’s not perfect, but it’s a whole lot better.
Databases are local
We learned that in some cases, users in corporate environments might inadvertently have their Evernote databases stored on the network. With the latest release, databases are, by default, stored on the local machine, improving speed and reliability.
PDF indexing
Evernote for Windows now indexes PDFs. This means that when you perform a search, Evernote will also look within PDFs, and return them in your results.
What’s next: We’re beginning work on PDF previews in Windows. Look for that in the not-too-distant future.

Looking forward to PDF previews in Windows! Will there be any functionality to annotate or highlight pdfs? Also, is ther plans to allow for importing and previewing for Excel, Word, Powerpoint?

I just bought an account.. If you guys can get the same kind of preview for PDFs that you get for Images (highlighted text and all), and then get both of the previews (with highlights) working on the iPhone app.. You’ve got a lifetime subscriber

One thing that I think this and the Mac version are missing is being able to jump through search results (Ctrl-G on Win and Apple-G on the Mac). It’s really annoying when you have a long note to have to scroll down and see where it’s highlighted after you do a search.

Any chance to make future updates less time-consuming? It seems to empty (?) the client database and then rebuilding it from web what makes the whole process last very long. And I have to do it on 3 computers…

Any thoughts about releasing a version for Linux?
So far I managed to run the Windows application with Wine on my Ubuntu and must say it is working fine.

It’s been a while.

PDF previews on Windows - excellent. I’m getting sick of having to wait to get home to my MacBook to re-arrange PDFs.
Wondering whether I should be importing scans as TIFFs instead of PDF?
Also, are we *sure* that “scanned in” PDFs are searchable? I’m not convinced my PDFs are searchable …

Great update! I second that ability for scalable PDF previews in Windows! Also, please add functionality to annotate or highlight pdf’s.
