Tip: Use Evernote To Research Your Next Big Purchase

Evernote is great for comparison shopping and researching a big purchase. Trying to decide which TV to buy, or which car is right for you, can seem nearly impossible. Use Evernote to clip reviews, prices and features. Have all your research and necessary info in one place; fully searchable (with links) to help you make the right decision. When you get to the store you can pull up all that great research on your mobile phone.

This is exactly what I did when I wanted to buy a new computer. I used web clippings from various computer sites which gave specs, prices, and reviews of different computers. I also used my Evernote iphone app to take pics of computers and sales tags at stores like Best Buy. I did some further research and finally bought a computer that I love. It came with a rebate which I used my iphone to make a copy of and also took a copy of my receipt.

Funny coincidence, I ordered a brand new LCD TV on Sunday from Amazon after spending two weeks collecting data and comparison shopping via Evernote.

Since Consumer Reports is a subscription site, it was really nice to be able to clip those pages into Evernote so I had easy access to them on the fly without typing my login and password.

I really appreciate the fact that you are using real life applications in the blog where the Evernote technology can help others become a bit more effective. Is there a person at Evernote who would like to speak at a Real Estate Technology Conference that we put on in the spring? The event is REtechSouth.com and is held March 2010.

I do this all the time, Evernote is perfect for this kind of thing. I’m currently shopping for some French Doors and have been clipping sections of websites whenever I find a set I like; any buying tips or other useful info I come across get clipped to EN too. I’ve also got the measurements, and details of builders who could fit them in EN too.

I used to do this kind of thing with bookmarks, but EN is *so* much better for this purpose – I can make my own notes, clip only the relevant bits of info, save manufacturers pdf brochures, create a virtual scrapbook, keep every bit of relevant info together using tags & easily search for a particular piece of info (regardless of whether that info is in my own notes, a website, a pdf or an image). And when I want to read through it all I don’t even need to open my web browser (which would create a minefield of potential distraction!! I have ADHD tendencies so anything I can do to reduce the need to get onto the time-sucking wonderland that is the internet is a good thing!)
