Adam and Heidi Glynn-Finnegan are a designer and songwriter, respectively. They got engaged in England’s Lake District in February 2009 and were married in Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, England. They designed and planned their wedding with the help of Evernote. This is their story.

We use Evernote For…

I (Adam) discovered Evernote around the time we got engaged. I came across a blog post about Evernote by Jeremy Cowart, a celebrity photographer, and decided to try it out. As a graphic designer, I have heaps of folders on my computer of web clips, sketches and ideas. I first started using Evernote to compile all of these ideas and inspirations. After getting in the habit of using Evernote for everyday tasks, I realized I had eradicated all of my ‘inspiration’ folders, as well as my browser bookmarks.

When wedding planning kicked in, Heidi and I turned to Evernote. We had six months to plan our wedding and had a strict budget. Nevertheless, it was important to us that the day be truly unique.

We started using the free version of Evernote but quickly saw the benefits of a Premium account. We started finding things we liked and sharing them with each other, all inside Evernote. The ability to capture and view notes on the iPhone App and the Desktop App was a huge help. We could capture photos and tidbits while we were out and about and then get back to them from our computer later.

The Details: 8 Ways to Plan a Wedding with Evernote

Wedding planning is extremely detail-oriented. Here are some of the ways we used Evernote:

1. Managing guest lists (this list was constantly a work in progress!)
2. Clipping inspiration from blogs and websites such as Design*Sponge and Brooklyn Bride. We would send Heidi’s sister clips of bouquets we liked. She ended up using inspiration we shared via Evernote to make our bouquets
3. Taking snapshots of things (like suits and flowers) we liked in shops using Evernote on our iPhone
4. Keeping track of invites, mailing addresses, RSVPs, address lists, vows and Thank You card recipients
5. Storing, editing and sharing itineraries for the day
6. Planning our honeymoon: tracking budgets and prices, listing hotels, places to eat and things to see
7. Managing our overall wedding budget
8. Emailing important notes straight from Evernote to our photographer

Tags or notebooks?

We used one notebook named ‘wedding,’ but also made the most of tags. We tagged the individual notes with important keywords so we could easily search for the crucial notes and get the information we needed really fast.

We set up a shared wedding notebook so both Heidi and I could add to and access all of our important wedding-related content.

Most Useful Feature

Sharing was extremely important to us. One of the best things about our wedding was the photos. We used Evernote to coordinate with our photographer, Allister Ann (who was based in Nashville and whom we had never met in person prior to the wedding). We used Evernote to organize international flights, places to meet and accommodation arrangements, as well as to share itineraries for the wedding, maps, photos of the location and photos that inspired us. Our photographer even gave us priceless tips on where to eat while on our honeymoon in San Francisco via Evernote. The Evernote app for iPhone meant I just checked the ‘yum’ tag and off we went.

Another feature we found extremely useful was the Web Clipper and the ability to clip entire web pages that were also made completely searchable in Evernote.

Did You Know: Thank Guests and Remember Special Moments

After the wedding, we sat in our hotel room going through our presents and taking notes in Evernote so we would remember to thank each person for their individual present. Because we chronicled everything related to our wedding in Evernote, we were left with a scrapbook of memories of special touches that made the day so great (like having little homemade vintage disposable cameras and designing our own invites and Save the Dates).
