How to Send Blog Posts from Google Reader to Evernote

Product updates | By Andrew Sinkov

Google Reader now lets you send blog posts directly into Evernote. When you send a post to Evernote, we go out to the source page and clip the whole thing –that way you get everything, not just the bit that you see in Reader.

Why I love this feature

A lot of my web life can be broadly classified as research: recipes, drool-worthy gadgets, lifehacking ideas, articles to read, etc. Much of that stuff enter my consciousness through Google Reader. The usual workflow is something like–see an interesting post, go to the blog, clip it into Evernote for later, return to Reader. Now, I can do everything without leaving Reader. Awesome.

Super simple setup

reader
Sign into Google Reader and click on the Settings link at the top of the page, then click on the “Send To” tab. Next, click “Create a Custom Link” and enter the following:

  • Name: Evernote
  • URL: http://s.evernote.com/grclip?url=${url}&title=${title}
  • Icon URL: http://www.evernote.com/favicon.ico

And you’re done!

What happens next

sendto-1
When you click your shiny new Send to Evernote button, a new tab will open asking you to sign into Evernote (if you haven’t done so recently), and to, optionally, select the destination notebook and add tags.

A little note

The results you will see are identical to clipping whole webpages using any of our web clippers, which means that you’ll get the content you want and some of the webpage element, too.

that is quite a godsend! thank you very much! now if you could figure out for me how to set up a default notebook (for instance i might want to do a quick send without opening up a new page on evernote) that would be great.
even more awesome if you can let me set up a list of notebooks to choose directly from gReader x=

This option seems to no longer work, it keeps saying that the url is invalid. Please help!!

wouldn’t it be easier if from either the evernote app or evernote login you could enter in the site for shared articles or starred articles? since this is open for other apps to use it seems like it could be an easy way to setup and would leave it open to other options as well. I have often thought about having some form of an RSS reader built into evernote for easily click and dragging into notebooks.

I agree that my perfect scenario would be for NetNewsWire to have this built in, instead of or along with Instapaper.

As it is, NNW has “Mail Link” built in, and if you have your Evernote email address in your mail client you can send stuff over. But, that’s 2 different apps, and I’m spoiled in this era of interconnected apps, and want it to be seamless. Waa.

Thanks Evernote – one more idea for streamlining my digital life.

It would be great if Reader displayed the “Send to” link in Safari on the iPhone, but it doesn’t. I don’t really see the point in using the “Send to” feature on my main computer because I could simply bookmark the URL, but on the iPhone it would be useful – too bad Reader doesn’t display it.

    Cool !

1- I’m user of Reader on laptop and Byline on iPhone.
Thus, it will be super to get that device on byline too !

2- As French user, please do note that I’ve had to switch to english language first to get the “Send” option as part of Google Reader functionalities.

That’s a nice EverNote implementation. What I’ve been doing with Google Reader is activating the “star” next to ones I’m interested in and reading them later on my phone or wherever, then un-”star”ing them when I was done (or keeping it like that forever).

Recently I like 2 new relatively new features (the “star” has been around since the beginning) — Sharing, and marking that you “like” a post. The sharing is not new but some newer implementation is. The “Like” feature is great but doesn’t let you mark something as liked on the iPhone.
