Evernote now available in the Mac App Store

Product updates | By Andrew Sinkov

We here at Evernote love app stores. They’ve played a critical role in Evernote’s growth, especially the iTunes App Store.

Since it’s launch, the iTunes App Store has set the standard for how storefronts should work, and its success has helped to create a new market. Now, Evernote can be found in over a dozen mobile storefronts worldwide from iTunes to Android to BlackBerry to WebOS. In recent months, app stores have become the way that most people first download Evernote, accounting for nearly 70% of new Evernote users!

To date, these have all been mobile, which is why we’re so excited about today’s announcement. Evernote is now available in Apple’s new Mac App Store.

This is huge

Apple revolutionized the way people interact with apps on their mobile devices. Before the iTunes App Store, finding and installing an app on your smartphone was about as pleasant as stepping on glass. Now, getting an app couldn’t be easier.

Imagine having that simplicity as part of your desktop experience.

By bringing their App Store know-how to the Mac, Apple is set to completely alter our expectations for software discovery and installation. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.

Get Evernote from the Mac App Store

The Mac App Store is part of the Mac OS X 10.6.6 update. Once you update, an App Store icon will appear on your dock. Then, search for Evernote and follow the installation steps. You will need an Apple ID

The advantages that the App Store offers are: much easier installation and easier updating.

If you already have Evernote installed

We recommend sticking with your installed Evernote version for now.

This is all new to us, and we can’t wait to see how the Mac App Store develops, and the effect that it has on the industry as a whole, which we anticipate will be quite significant.

Hum hum… now looking at the “Save PDF to Evernote” issue it in more detail… isn’t that simply a link to the Evernote app that is placed under “~/Library/PDF Services”? If so, it seems easy to re-enable on an app store-bought version… can anybody confirm it works? (I have a website-bought version)

Yes, I just tried and it does work. I had Evernote installed on both my desktop and laptop and used ‘print to PDF’ frequently. I had to replace my laptop (after feeding it a large coffee through the keyboard) and decided to install the app store version. I had just discovered that the feature was missing, found this thread, read your post and tried it.
      Thanks for the info.
(BTW, installing the Safari extension went smoothly for me.)

    RE: Print to PDF:
The script is not the way to go. I look forward to them implementing a “monitor this folder” feature.

Does anyone know why Evernote would need so many threads? Showing up as 34 threads on OSX Lion (i just have the app open, no notes added yet, just idle)…

I’ve been trying many times with firefox and it fails to install for my mac.

I now only have Evernote in the cloud. On my iMac OS X 10.5.8 Evernote will not run. Neither will the uninstall program sent by Evernote. Now, Evernote tech service won’t even answer my e-mails. Any help?

This (old) blog entry says that Evernote will “continue to have a version for download on our site for those that like getting their software the old-fashioned way.” The link provided takes you to a page where the ONLY option is to download via the App Store. What happened to being allowed to download software without having to log into another provider’s system to do it? Not only does the App Store install fail for me, but Evernote itself is now dead and gone, somehow having committed suicide on my desktop and both laptops. Do versions expire if you don’t upgrade? It’s suspicious to me that three systems had Evernote turn into the unhappy “no such object” icon on the same day.

I second Adrian’s question. What happend with the *direct* download link? I don’t want to register to AppStore just to get Evernote. Thanks.

  • david

I want to use Evernote but I will not make an app store account. Seriously, I’m not going to register a home address and verify my email in order to use software. This should be between you people and me, apple shouldn’t need to be involved. I don’t mind buying it to avoid that step, I’ve opened a support ticket to see if that’s possible.
