Evernote now available in the Mac App Store

Product updates | By Andrew Sinkov

We here at Evernote love app stores. They’ve played a critical role in Evernote’s growth, especially the iTunes App Store.

Since it’s launch, the iTunes App Store has set the standard for how storefronts should work, and its success has helped to create a new market. Now, Evernote can be found in over a dozen mobile storefronts worldwide from iTunes to Android to BlackBerry to WebOS. In recent months, app stores have become the way that most people first download Evernote, accounting for nearly 70% of new Evernote users!

To date, these have all been mobile, which is why we’re so excited about today’s announcement. Evernote is now available in Apple’s new Mac App Store.

This is huge

Apple revolutionized the way people interact with apps on their mobile devices. Before the iTunes App Store, finding and installing an app on your smartphone was about as pleasant as stepping on glass. Now, getting an app couldn’t be easier.

Imagine having that simplicity as part of your desktop experience.

By bringing their App Store know-how to the Mac, Apple is set to completely alter our expectations for software discovery and installation. We’re thrilled to be a part of it.

Get Evernote from the Mac App Store

The Mac App Store is part of the Mac OS X 10.6.6 update. Once you update, an App Store icon will appear on your dock. Then, search for Evernote and follow the installation steps. You will need an Apple ID

The advantages that the App Store offers are: much easier installation and easier updating.

If you already have Evernote installed

We recommend sticking with your installed Evernote version for now.

This is all new to us, and we can’t wait to see how the Mac App Store develops, and the effect that it has on the industry as a whole, which we anticipate will be quite significant.

    Dear Evernote,

I love Evernote. I have a sketch comedy group and we use evernote everyday as our digital comedy brain, housing sketches, ideas, and various projects that we are working on. In this way it is invaluable. However, I have one gigantic complaint: your lack of rich-text editing is terrible!! Please please fix this. Currently this is the only thing that keeps me from going premium. While the version of evernote on the ipad is sleek, its lack of rich text formating makes it virtually impossible for me to use my ipad to work on over 90% of my projects. Please please fix this.
