Evernote Web: New Multi-Select Lets You Move, Email and Merge Notes Fast

I defy you to try the new Evernote Web multi-select feature and not smile a little.

It’s very straightforward to use. You can now select specific notes by clicking as you press CTRL (Windows) or CMD (Mac). Then, drag the notes into a notebook or to a tag. You can also merge, email and delete the notes with a single click.

As you select the notes, watch as they visually stack on top of each other like a pile of photographs in your note pane. Right beneath the animating notes, you’ll see the multi-select options, which let you quickly organize, tag, move, and delete batch notes. These concepts will be making their way into our desktop versions in the not-too-distant future.

Check it for yourself by signing into Evernote Web.

    Loving it!

Excellent interface for batch actions 🙂

  • Dave

GREAT! Does it do a better job of merging in a specified order – like the order selected instead of listed order? Mac version STILL merges in list-order, not in sequence selected. A real pain!

    • Braeden Kepner

      Hey Dave,

Yeah, the webclient merges notes based on the order in which they were selected.

  • Owyn

This feature is limited by supporting only ctrl/cmd select. Select range (shift select) is also required. Select all would also be useful, but, not strictly required. Shift select would make that a trivial exercise.

This is an improvement to the web client, but, would not be a improvement to the windows client. Assign Tags (Ctrl+ALt+T) is an indispensable productivity tool in that client.

Awesome!!!! Can’t wait to see this in the desktop versions. Evernote ROCKS!

Do the updates work on the android tablet?

  • Jody

That is really cool!! But now when I click on a notebook that does not have a stack it comes up with the add stack window. It will not go to the notebook. I am using Chrome on a Win 7-64 computer.

Jody, we weren’t able to reproduce this issue. Would you please contact support:

Very nice, I was hoping this feature would come and here it is and nicely executed. This way I don’t have have to use the desktop version anymore (all that data syncing and sitting on my local computer). I have noticed in the last half year a pick-up in speed from the Evernote team in bringing out new features and updating Evernote on all platforms. This has kept me with Evernote where I was starting to consider alternatives.

OK – I have to give big props to this. I had been one user requesting Merge notes through the web for a long time. It is now here and this makes so many things better for me. Thanks team. You rock again.

(late reply) But Thank you for having been persistent with them… I’ve been waiting for the Merge Notes (online) feature for years too.

Had no idea it came… That’s definitely a Big Thing! Simple, but BIG.

    I DID smile 🙂

I really like evernote but to be able to use it properly I’d like to be able to:

    1 Copy a note
It would be great to be able to copy a note then produce a modified version, or maybe merge a set of notes.

    2 Drag and drop editing.
I just want to select some text then move it to a new location. That’s pretty standard with most software these days!

3 I’d like to be able to print out the whole notebook, or maybe a list of the notes in title or snippet format. I simply cannot do this at the moment!

    This could be a great product . . . .

I’d like to email my evernotes from my HTC android phone. Can I do that? JHD

  • Move Email

I was hoping that Evernote would have a move email function to transfer groups of emails into Evernote for searching and quick finding. Or if there’s any way to batch move emails from Gmail directly. seems like they could do it, but don’t have a Gmail solution yet. Is this something you might develop?

Does anybody know how to merge docs on the app version? (iPad)

  • Mark

As people use Evernote more with more notes in it there really needs to be a way to select a range of notes (shift). If I want to move 125 notes to a new folder I have to cmd select each one?

    • Annica

      I totally agree!

  • Rick

I agree with Mark and other commenters that there needs to be a shift+click option to select more notes than having to cmd+click each one.

  • amuramoto

This is possible in Evernote for Mac and Evernote for Windows Desktop, but is currently not supported in the web client.

    • Annica

Thanks for the clarification! Another shortcoming of the web version is that I can’t seem to find a way to create new notebooks.

  • Wizard of Odyssey

I just did something a command-click on about that many notes. It wasn’t that big a deal to do it in batches.

Is anyone having trouble batching notes in the new interface on a MAC? I am have difficulty batching notes.

  • Michael Hardin

Not working for me. It just moves focus from one note to the next. I was trying to select several for a batch delete. I guess I’ll have to do it next time I’m on my windows machine in the windows version. My everyday computer is a chromebook, and I’m dependent on the web version.

I loved this feature, but is there a way to “select all” notes (using control, shift, or other means) in the “new” version of Evernote web?
