Evernote for BlackBerry Update: Offline Notes, Better Sync and Much More

Product updates | By Andrew Sinkov

It’s been a while since Evernote for BlackBerry received some much-deserved polishing, which is why we’re so excited about today’s 3.3 release. Now, BlackBerry owners (OS 5+) have a truly first class Evernote application. Here’s why:

Get Evernote from BlackBerry App World.

Offline notes

This update adds a number of features that make the application much faster and allow you to use it no matter where you find yourself.

First launch
The first thing that happens when you launch the updated app is a Sync. This sync pulls down thumbnails and some information about your notes: titles, tags, etc. Doing this allows you to browse through your note list, even when you’re offline.

Faster loading
Now that more note content is stored on the device, browsing and opening your notes is much faster. The BlackBerry app no longer constantly requests information from the service because much of what it needs is sitting right there. What used to take minutes, now takes seconds.

Create notes without a network connection
No network connection? No problem. The new Evernote for BlackBerry lets you create new notes with text, audio and photos, whenever you like. These notes are pinned to the top of your note list in a Pending state until you get onto a network, at which point they will sync into your account. You can even edit the pending notes, if you need to.

View notes offline
Whenever you create a note, or view the note, it will be stored locally on your device. This means that you won’t need a network connection in order to view the note later. If the note has an attached file, say a PDF, you’ll first need to view the file while you have a network connection before it will be available offline.

Lots of improvements

In addition to the offline capabilities, we’ve also made numerous enhancements to the app.

  • Better Sync: Exiting the application during sync will pause the sync. It will pick up where it left off when you return.
  • Attach any file type: Free and Premium users can add any file stored on the device or SD card (as long as it falls under the size restrictions) to a note.
  • Better use of the SD card: Evernote makes better use of the SD card so that you can store more and retrieve things faster.

Tip: Browse by notebooks and tags

You can now easily browse by notebooks and tags. To do this, go to the Search screen, then type in a notebook or tag. It will show up in the drop down. Tap on it, and you’re all set. You can do the same for Saved Searches.

More to come

There are many more updates and enhancements coming to Evernote for BlackBerry. Stay tuned.

In my country not work appworld, where I can download Evernote? give plz work link

  • s121

Sorry but it’s still very heavy, slow..

    • xavier.delplanque

Main reason of slow performance is an incorrect configuration of the connexion parameters.
I would suggest to go to setting and make sure BIS is not selected as access point.

Thanks so much for the offline viewing! Often I am in a location where cell service is not available. I use my Evernote mostly in a “Notes” fashion. On my iPod Touch and PC’s, I can sort by “Title”. It would be great to be able to sort notes by “Title” on my Blackberry as well.

    • xavier.delplanque

Thanks for the suggestion, we are investigating more sorting option.

The update isn’t showing up in my App World. I have a BB Curve 9300 with OS 5 and the Evernote release version listed is only 3.2

    • xavier.delplanque

It was available for BB Curve 9300 OS6. I have added OS5 for you.

  • Ann

Since you appear to be taking feature requests, can I add one: ZOOM! The titles of the notes are written in such small type, I can’t always tell what they say. Once the note is open, it’s fine – the text is what I consider “normal” sized. But the titles … oy!

    Thanks!

    • xavier.delplanque

      Thanks Ann,
This is a known issue and we are already working on it. Should be available soon.

Just downloaded latest Blackberry update (3.3.356). First glance – significant improvement.
    Thanks

    Hi,

    [Blackberry Bold, Evernote 3.3.3356]

1- The notes that I’ve opened online before going offline are indeed accessible. However, they take a very long time to launch. My settings are: network automatic/APN Custom – any suggestion?

2- Is there another way to make notes available offline than opening them each one by one?

3- Do you plan on making the software available for older versions of Mac? My OS is just a couple years old and it’s not accepted so I can’t install the software.

    Thank you!

    • xavier.delplanque

      Hi Jessica,

1- thanks for reporting this issue. If the note is complexe (large web clip) and your phone is not very powerful, the rendering may take a bit of time. If that’s not your case, it may be a performance issue.

2- not for the moment. I would like to support offline notebooks in the future, that would answer the problem.

3 – please let me know a bit more about your device and OS. We support OS5, 6 and 7 so if your phone is 2 years old, it should be supported.

I use five notebooks on my laptop. Each notebook is for a different project. The current BB version allows the user to see all the notes from each of the notebooks.
This can get confusing if there are many notes in each notebook.

Is there a way for me to access each notebook independtly on the BB?

  • Jan

Great update! Been a premium user for a long time now and I have a lot of Evernote versions (Android, iOS, windows, Mac, and of course, BB).. I should say that the BB version lags a bit compared to the others.

I’m looking forward to the day we can finally make multimedia notes, i.e. notes with rich text, audio, and pictures.

Also, it would be great if we can view notes by notebooks. It seems weird when all notes are dumped in a single page (“All Notes”).

Thanks for this wonderful system, Evernote!
