We’re really excited about today’s Evernote for Android (v5) update. It looks more beautiful than ever, comes with a great Premium feature, adds a whole new camera with support for our Evernote Smart Notebook, plus a whole lot more. Let’s take a closer look.

New Camera. New Mode.

Photos help you remember moments as they happened, and now you’ll be able to capture lots and lots of moments without ever leaving the camera. The new Multi-shot Camera lets you take multiple photos, then save them all into a note. If a particular photo didn’t turn out the way you like, you can easily delete it before saving.

Page Camera
When you’re making a photo note, you’ll notice a new option on the screen. That’s Page Camera. Page Camera is like having a scanner in your pocket. Turn on this mode and you’ll be able to save physical documents and papers in Evernote. Just align the page with the on-screen rectangle and take the photo. The app will find the edges of the page, remove any shadows and improve the contrast, so you’ll have a perfect copy in Evernote.

Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine

This is where the new Page Camera gets really interesting. Evernote and Moleskine came together to build the most beautiful and functional notebook ever made. The result is the Evernote Smart Notebook, which keeps all of things that make Moleskine a favorite among creative individuals, and adds some unique Evernote-friendly features.

Instead of lines, each page has dots. When you use the new Page Camera to take a photo of the page, we use the dots to correct skew and further improve the contrast. The resulting image is bright, letting your writing and sketches pop off the page. Plus the whole experience is optimized for our handwriting recognition technology, which makes your notes searchable in Evernote.

Smart Stickers
Every Evernote Smart Notebook comes with a set of colorful Smart Stickers in the back pocket. When you apply a Smart Sticker to a page in your Evernote Smart Notebook and take a Page Camera photo, we’ll recognize the sticker and assign a tag to the note, place the note in an existing notebook you have specified, or both. You can define the Smart Stickers to mean whatever you like in the app Settings.

The Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine is available now in small ($24.95) and large ($29.95) sizes, with your choice of two paper patterns (lined and squared). Each notebook also comes with a code for 3-months of Evernote Premium. Order yours today »

If you’re an Evernote for Mac user, then you already know and love Shortcuts, which is why we’re really excited to bring them to mobile for the first time. Shortcuts lets you quickly jump to notes, notebooks and tags that you access frequently. To create a Shortcut, open the Shortcut Panel by swiping from the right edge of the screen on the note list, notebook list, tag list, or when in a single note.

That’s not all. Evernote shortcuts sync across platforms. If you already have shortcuts set on Mac, they’ll now appear on your Android device, and vice versa. Pretty great.

New Premium Feature: Document Search

Premium users have had a supercharged search for some time, and that search just got a whole lot more powerful. Starting today, when you search your account, any documents, spreadsheets and presentations with matching words will also appear in your results. This includes files created in Microsoft Office and iWork. Putting those files into Evernote just got a lot more useful. And don’t forget, if you’re Premium, you also have advanced PDF Search, which makes your scanned PDFs searchable.

Keep in mind, when you attach a new document to Evernote, it will need a few minutes to process and sync before the results will start appearing.

New for Evernote Business: Tag Support

Evernote Business users will be happy to hear that we’ve also added support for Business tags in this update. When you tap into the tag view you’ll be able to filter by Business tags, as well as edit tags contained within Business Notebooks.

A Beautiful Look

We take design very seriously at Evernote. Our team is always striving to create the best Evernote experience possible, while supporting the design aesthetics and expectations of the platform. That’s why we love our Android app, and for this update we’ve made it look even better.

We redesigned the note lists to give each note more definition, making them easier to see and tap. We also redrew every icon throughout the app to make them more refined and beautiful. There are tons of other small details, tweaks and improvements that make this the best looking Evernote for Android ever.

And much more

This is a major new version of Evernote. In addition to all the great features above, we made a number of speed and reliability improvements that make everything about the app better. We hope you like the latest. Let us know what you think in the comments.

Very very excited to finally be able to put my Moleskine Evernote Smart Notebook to good use! Been waiting since October 🙂

I love this update. The only thing that still bugs me is the camera icon, both in the note editing screen and in the swipe-in menu to the left. Especially in the first case, it cheapens the whole experience. A flat design, as it is used in the widget, would give the whole app a much classier look.

    Well done!

Thanks for noticing. The prices are updated.

You’re simply the best. Better than all the rest. Better than anyone. Anyone I’ve ever met

Great update, been waiting on these features for ages. Few mistakes with focus on printed pages using the camera though.

When are we going to get a decent update to Evernote for Windows?

It’s by design. We get a much more consistent and predictable quality image when the flash is enabled.

Hi guys. As a Linux + Android user I’m absolutely loving this update! Think I’ve found a bug however that has made it from the last beta to the production version. Trying to configure the smart stickers results in a response of “Operation failed”. Tested on a tf101 and galaxy note. Same situation on both.

Awesome new version, thx! I really love the doc scan, it saves me a huge amount of time!

I was really, really, hoping it would get stylus support…there are now literally millions of Galaxy Note devices out there, and Skitch is a poor substitute for proper Evernote integration. Maybe v.6?

  • amuramoto

Hi Nancy, is there any chance you could reply with a link to a note that has one of the photos you took of the page with page camera?

We recently released an update that fixes the issue that some users experienced with multi-shot camera. Please download the latest version from Google Play.

    • Olo

The Multi-shot camera doesn’t focus (Samsung Galaxy S II). All photos of notes are blurred. Happening on all versions of Evernote, up to the current latest version.

Is it intentional/by design or a bug?

  • amuramoto

    Hi Genevieve,

One thing you can try is placing the Smart Stickers away from the edge of the page.

A recent update to the app fixed many compatibility issues. Please download the latest version.

You can use your phone’s default camera app to snap photos, and then save them to your Evernote account by using the share menu in the Android Gallery app.

  • AndrewSinkov

    Thanks for the suggestion.
