Whether you travel for pleasure or business, you probably find yourself idling away some in-air time. Today, we’d like to show you how to use Offline Notebooks, a Premium feature available on Android and iOS, to have a more productive flight.

Offline Notebooks are just that: they give you access to your notes and notebooks, even when you don’t have an Internet connection. Regardless of what device you have on hand, you can browse through your notes, edit them, and create new ones. To get the most out of Offline Notebooks, be sure to sync your devices prior to travel.

Upgrade to Evernote Premium.

Offline Notes on the plane

A few ways to use this feature:

  • For planning your trip itinerary: Browse through articles, email recommendations, maps and confirmations before you land at your destination so you can hit the ground running without having to get your bearings at the hotel.
  • For tying up any loose ends: Got a few outstanding work projects you’d like to wrap up? Make all your edits, write out emails, then send everything out once you have a connection.
  • For capturing inspiration: There’s something about being on an airplane; it’s a great time to harness creative energy. Whip out your mobile device and capture whatever ideas come to mind.

Other ways to use Offline Notes for travel:

Before the flight

For accessing your boarding pass: Skip the paper boarding pass and save your electronic boarding pass to Evernote. When checking in, just pull it up in Evernote on your phone.

Once you get off the plane:

For avoiding high roaming fees: If you’re traveling abroad, you might not want to invest in paying for Internet. With Offline Notes, you can enjoy access to everything that’s important to you without raking up charges.

I am traveling in Thailand right now and purposely renewed my Premium membership so I would have access to this offline feature as I traveled without consistent Internet access. However, I was very disappointed that the notes I starred to make them available offline on my iPhone were available, but the attached PDFs were not. I regularly Print to Evernote from my email, which creates a PDF attachment in an Evernote note. However this document is useless to me if starring the note does not also download and keep a local copy of the attached document in the note. This feature is a nice idea, but the execution of it is incomplete. I’m surprised this had not already been acknowledged. Or perhaps I should change the way I get the content into Evernote? Please add attachment access to offline access. Thanks.

Hi there, Offline Notebooks and the action that you’re describing (which sounds like starring a note to make it a favorite) are actually two different features. When you star a note, it will not download the attachments. If you download an Offline Notebook, the attachments will download. Hope that helps!

Does this mean I create a separate “offline notebook’ (that has the content that will want to access) that I must download in order to access it?

I do wish that offline notebooks can be made available to premium users of Chrome OS. I’d also love to be able to create a note offline and then when I get back online it will sync to Evernote. It doesn’t seem possible with a Chromebook.

Where did you find where to choose what folder to make offline?

  • Dee

Good question. Where do you flag the folder for offline use?

I may have to revert to Quicknote for offline use – what a nuisance. Quicknote can be used on a Chromebook.

They need to make an official Chrome web app that works offline. Some workplaces won’t allow you to install the Windows program.

This is not an intuitive feature in anyway
