We could call this the Do More With Evernote Android update because we’ve added two features that will expand your Evernote use in completely different ways. The first will let you markup your notes, while the second is all about educating you with tips and stories.

Mark Up Your Notes

For this update, we’ve incorporated features from our Skitch app right into Evernote. You can now overlay text, shapes, arrows, stamps, and more on top of images in your account. These are perfect for sharing feedback on a screenshot or design mockup, or simply pointing something out for your future reference.

To start, tap on an image, then tap on the markup icon. You’ll seamlessly switch into the markup mode where you’ll have your choice of tools and colors.

Premium Feature: PDF Markup
If you scan documents and store PDFs in your account, then upgrading to Premium will be the way to go. With an Evernote Premium subscription, you’ll be able to add annotations to any page of the PDF you’re viewing. Get Evernote Premium »

Announcements

Tap the bugle icon at the top of the homescreen to find Announcements, a frequently-updated page of useful product update information, tips about features and inspiring user stories. Our goal with Announcements is simple: we spend a lot of time building Evernote, so we want you to use it to its full potential.

More to Come

We expect that these updates will make Evernote even more useful to you. Let us know what you think.

These are nice, but how about the ability to edit complex documents (or at least to prevent document formatting on one platform that is not supported on all platforms).
It is so frustrating to type up a note on my PC, only to later open it on my tablet (when I’m probably in a hurry) and find that I have to use the kludgy, line-by-line edit interface because I unwittingly committed a formatting faux pas.

i was wainting so much for some improvement in the text editor…*sigh*

I use Evernote to take my class notes on college, i like how fast it is and how my annotations are always safe.

Such a shame you can’t highlight what you find more important, and the greatest disappointment is that you still can’t change text color. There were any decent competitor for EN i’d sure change for it. I just can’t accept that the team that made an app so successful and famous isn’t able to implement colored text on android, since using EN as a notebook is such an obvious application for it.

I’m sure many people around the world are very disappointed with this update and waiting for a relevant update in the text editor for a long time now. Of course no one expects EN Android text editor to be as powerful as Microsoft Word nor as the Windows version of EN, but the lack of a core obvious feature as colored texts in an app that is made to take annotations anywhere you are is just unacceptable.

Really really disapointed with EN. I hope someone reads it and do something.

Mac. Obviously, where is this feature? Yeah, mobile, mobile is not the end, it’s endless complimentary relationship w/not as mobile, formally known as a laptop or (gulp, mind hurting to recall correct parlance) desktop

I use evernote for notes in class and for projects at work and home. Not being able to use a third party app to open the pdfs that I save in evernote is very disappointing. I often catch up on my reading assignments on my phone, and skitch is just not able to provide the features that I need to make this practical. I need to be able to zoom, convert to white-on-black and use text-reflow. Please enable a third-party app option until skitch can provide these features.

Couldn’t Have agreed more. I’ve put several of my Manuals in PDF’s (DSLR’s, GPS Devices, Routers among other). Now the problem is that several of these Manuals are couple of hundred pages long ranging upto 400-500 pages. Now they arent’ opening in Acrobat Reader on the phone, it simply defeats the purpose of placing them there in the 1st place.
If I have to refer to a particular page which is in the middle of the PDF its quite a daunting task.

I completely agree. Losing the third party app integration for PDF’s drastically reduces the usability of the program that has always been awesome! Please bring this option back!!!

I totally agree with Mr. Goldner because first of all the Skitch GUI does not allow fullscreen reading of PDFs and the annotate functionaliy is not yet up to par compared to Acrobat reader (e.g. highlighting of text in Skitch is very poor in my opinion and it should be an easy fix), I actually bought a Samsung note 8 only for using evernote and reading PDF through Evernote.

I`m a premium user with 20 000 documents in Evernote and I love almost everything you`ve done so far but please allow third-party PDF readers like Acrobat OR make Skitch do the same things as Acrobat reader..

By the way: as a premium user I would probably be willing to pay a lot more for Evernote than I do today. I think you guys have a lot of pricing power once users are becoming really addicted to Evernote (i.e. reaching > 20k + notes etc…)

Anyway, thanks for all the great work you`ve done!

    Best regards,

    Petter

When I add a sticker (right symbol) to an image… can’t I make that sticker smaller/bigger?! (I only can add text, rotate the arrow, … but can’t make that sticker smaller for example)

Dear Evernote, thanks for letting us choose between Acrobat and Skitch when opening pdfs in Evernote on Anroid.
I also noticed you`ve made a fantastic highlighting tool in Evernote Clearly for Firefox as well as Evernote 5 for windows – please make this highlighting tool available in Skitch as well! (together with zoom functionality etc…)
Thank you for all the great work you`ve done lately! It`s obvious that you have hired a lot of great developers lately!
    Best regards,
    Petter

i am in the camp of Francisco.. a big sigh .. would love to see EN improve the basics first… editing notes (on android) is just poor…. eg. format painter, color and most of all ability to edit a note without jumping all the way back to top.

now this annotation feature.. Dont need it .. dont want it.. but all of a sudden .. can read any pdf’s in EN anymore without installing additional feature? it seems to be loaded mandatory?
