Evernote 8.0: Organization Made Simple

Evernote 8.0: Organization Made Simple

Posted by SiNing Chan on 17 Jan 2017

Getting organized and staying organized should consume as little time and effort as possible. That’s why we redesigned Evernote for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with speed and simplicity in mind, so you can spend more of your time capturing ideas and less time organizing and searching for them.  Say hello to Evernote 8.0, now available for download from the App Store.

To get the inside story on these changes, watch the Facebook Live event (originally streamed on Wednesday, January 18) with Kara Hodecker, Evernote’s product design manager, the woman behind our look and feel on iOS. Learn more »

What’s New?

With your feature requests in mind, our iOS design and engineering teams set out to reimagine the Evernote experience from the ground up. Evernote 8.0 for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch is our fastest, most elegant iOS app ever:

  • Faster ways to find notes
  • New notes, now just one tap away
  • Add color and style to your notes

Faster ways to find notes

One of the first things you’ll notice is that we’ve improved the overall navigation structure so you can get to your notes quicker. We’ve removed the home screen so you’ll have immediate access to your most recently updated notes. This way, you can start working from where you last left off. No extra taps required.

You’ll also notice that the app has a fresh, new look. Even your note list has been spruced up so you can scan through your notes more quickly. Devoted notebook fans will also love the way Evernote 8.0 makes it easy to dive in and out of notebooks to find notes. Simply tap the notebook selector above any note list to jump into another notebook.

Do you organize with tags or reminders? Evernote 8.0 comes with two new search features you’ll appreciate. A quick tap of the alarm clock located at the top of any note list brings up all the notes you’ve set up with reminders. To see only those notes associated with particular tags, tap the tag button located at the top of any note list and select the tags you want to filter for.

New notes, now just one tap away

Note-taking should be simple, so we simplified it. Open Evernote and tap the green ‘plus sign’ button to create a new text note. Long press this same button and slide your finger to record audio, capture images (such as business cards, whiteboards, and receipts), and set up notifications to remind you to take action on a particular note.

Clarify with new colors and styles

Sometimes, plain black text isn’t enough. Evernote 8.0 gives you more ways to style your text. Use different colors and sizes to create headers and subheaders, call attention to key points, or make it easier to recall information. We make it easy by offering several pre-defined text colors and font sizes for you to choose from.

What’s new for our Evernote Business customers

For Evernote Business customers, who rely on Evernote to stay productive in both their personal and professional lives, there’s a clearer division between your personal and business notes, notebooks, shortcuts, and saved searches. This way, you won’t accidentally save a cake recipe to your company’s marketing team notebook and your company meeting notes won’t appear in your family’s shared travel planning notebook.

We’ve also made it easier to switch between your personal and business accounts. Simply long-press ‘Account’ on the tab bar to switch to another account.

We think that once you’ve set eyes on the new Evernote 8.0 app, you’ll agree with many of those in our Beta community who say it’s the best version of the Evernote iOS app ever. Try it today and you’ll see for yourself just how fast, simple, and elegant your Evernote experience on iOS can be. Download now »

See the Evernote Quick Start Guide for more about what you can do in Evernote.

And you still… STILL… don’t support nested tags on the app, even though you tout that as a way to organize.

    https://blog.evernote.com/blog/2014/12/10/use-tags-organize-evernote/

    https://blog.evernote.com/blog/2016/02/08/4-effective-strategies-to-organize-evernote/

Why don’t you spend some time working on making your apps work in similar ways and to support similar features? Especially when you’re always saying to use tags because you don’t want to support a proper notebook hierarchy.

    • Maximillian

Nested Tags is what we need! The interface while not perfect is good enough. The nested tags is much more important.

      • Shawn

Yes – nested tags are still missing after so many years of request. I am still using years old evernote 2.0 because of this fewture and that you can use keyboard to search for tags and goto the one you want- please add this feature asap

  • Ryan

8.0 won’t even open on my iPhone 6plus!

Crashes on iPad on launch… 🙁

EN 8.0 fails on launch. I get an “delete this and all the data goes with it warning when I try to re-install. That doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy. I pay good money for Evernote. Fix this quick if you know whats good for you. Apple’s Notes is pretty damn good.

Crashes on launch on my iPhone 6 🙁

      • Pamela Rosen

Hi I had to restart my iphone for the app to load and not crash.

  • Oletros

As always, there are first class citizens and then, Android users

    • Torben Ibsen

No, no. You are fine people, you Android users. But Android is about 100 different systems using the same marketing name. So many things will take longer to produce to your particular variant of Android. – Those who want to be first to get new stuff choose IOS. But sometimes it is an advantage to wait until the bugs have been killed by the IOS users.

  • Mark

Love the simplicity of the new app, but am disappointed that multiple notes selection for moving and merging is still not possible. It’s the only reason I keep the Mac version installed.

  • Scott Ettin

It’s a great, much-needed update. When do you drop the MacOS update? And when may we have subtle paper skins like the Apple Notes app? Very minimal and subtle, no candy…Thank you!

    • Joe

Meets 99% of my needs, and WOW the interface changes are great. Seriously smooth, concise, and useful. I love it! Thanks for the tons of thought and hard work that went into this update. (Update was flawless for me on iPhone 7.)

  • Karl

    Great update!
Only…, as an business user I now have to search my notes in TWO places (accounts) !!!???
That would be a very BIG mistake…!!!

  • Bob Easton

When are you going to pay attention to millions of Android users?

  • Word Merchant

Evernote 8.0 crashes on startup instantly every time on iOS 10.2 on iPhone 6 Plus and iPad so I’m not as excited as others here. More testing please and get an update out right now…

    • Pamela Rosen

Hi, there! I’m so sorry you’re having this issue. Send a tweet to @EvernoteHelps and the support team will be able to help you from there. -Pam R

      • Michelle O

Like some others who have commented here Evernote 8.0 crashes on my iPad. There was a suggestion to reinstall Evernote as first step to see if it fixes the problem. However, to do this I think I need to remove it from my iPad first – I got a warning that my data would be deleted if I did this so I am very wary about doing this. What advice do you have for me Evernote? I want to get back up and running with this ASAP – use Evernote for lots of my work.

        • Pamela Rosen

Michelle, you definitely should not be seeing this. Please send a tweet to our support team @EvernoteHelps, or, if you aren’t inclined toward Twitter, you can open a support ticket directly from this link: https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action . -Pam R

          • Scott

I had the issue where the app starts to open and then disappears. I went to delete-reinstall app. However when I did, message appeared saying that all data would be deleted and so reluctant to do. I went to Twitter EvernoteHelps … and it didn’t. I got a general autoreply initially, but after I explained issue there has been no response (NOT EVEN AN AUTO “hang on”) for quite some time. This is very discouraging!

          • Pamela Rosen

Scott, as you might imagine, Support is busier than usual today. Please try sending a DM to @EvernoteHelps. Someone will be with you. I appreciate your patience as we work through this issue. -Pam R

  • P H Garcia

I hated it. Not only they don’t support nested tags, but now navigation is worse.

  • Norbert

Just updated. EN 8 doesn’t start on iPhone 6s iOS 10.2. Even restarting iPhone doesn’t help.

    • Pamela Rosen

Norbert, I’m sorry you’re having this experience! Send a quick note to our support team @EvernoteHelps on Twitter, and someone will be able to help you. -Pam R

  • Bart

There seems to be a big bug in Evernote 8-0. The app closes itself right after opening. It’s not longer possible to use Evernote on my iPad. How can I go back to the last version?

    • Torben Ibsen

It should be on your backup, somewhere.

  • Kevin Murray

We’re used to updates for Apple coming out before Android. But this post doesn’t event mention Android. With this kind of treatment, we begin to think about other note apps.

  • daryl mccollin

Keeps crashing and won’t load. Any updates on why this is happening? Thanks Daryl

  • Peter

Looks good, but after updating my iPhone and iPad apps to 8.0 I have one question and one problem:
    1) Where do I access the Presentation mode? I can’t find it in the iPhone app.
    2) The app crashes upon launch on my iPad.

  • James

Looks great guys, congrats on the launch (despite some of the bugs)! You’ve really put a lot of thought into this, what a fantastic update. It’d be great if you could share the story behind the creation, including the research with the customers.

Most of all I’m delighted you released it for iOS 9 too! Thanks!

    • Pamela Rosen

Hey, James! Thanks! We’ll be telling that story tomorrow on Facebook Live at 10:00 am PST! -Pam R

  • Leif Svendsen

8.0 terminates immediately!! Can’t open and work with it. Please fix it!

  • Espen

I can only add to the experience of others too – Evernote 8 opens to a blank “page” and then just crash (iPad Air running iOS 10.2).
Have restarted, but to no avail – it just crashes.
I will therefore not install it on my phone until there is a bug fix.

    All the best.

    • Espen

I found advice on Twitter: Uninstall and reinstall Evernote 8. And that solved it – great.

However , now it has blocked me from using more than 2 devices and asking me to sign up for Premium subscription, despite the fact that I have had a Premium subscription for years. I have no intention of paying twice/double.
      Damn.

      • Pamela Rosen

        Espen,
Please do send a tweet to our support team at @EvernoteHelps. You don’t have to pay twice–if you’re already a Premium subscriber in good standing, you’re still a Premium member. They’ll sort you out. –Pam R

        • Espen

          Pamela,

          Thank you for your replies.

I contacted @evernotehelps yesterday (before reading your reply), wondering about “the 2 devices” thing and mentioning that I was already a Premium subscriber, but have not heard anything.

I ended up paying the (rather heftily increased) subscription fee in order for Evernote to work at all on my devices and will have to check that I have not paid double.

I have been very happy with Evernote through many years, but this was a “messy” update, and very unlike my previous experience with Evernote. This, and the subscription fee increase, will make me consider thoroughly if Evernote is still a solution for me.

          All the best.

          • Pamela Rosen

Epsen, Support said they had no record for your email address. I strongly suggest you send a DM (Direct Message) on Twitter to @EvernoteHelps and tell then your issue and email address so you can engage with Support directly. You should not have to pay twice, and they will respond to you. Understandably, we have a lot of people coming to support yesterday and today, but they are there to work with you personally. -Pam R

    • Pamela Rosen

      Epsen,
You can contact support by sending a tweet to @EvernoteHelps, or you can open a support ticket by selecting your issue from the dropdown menu at https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action . Hope that helps! -Pam R

  • Mark

So far the new app looks good. I like it better. I just read the article in WIRED and thought it was interesting. My two cents: you should look at building functionality that mirrors what FileThis does (including integrating with Evernote). Being able to set up Evernote so it goes out and grabs things that I want, so I don’t have to, and then organizes it for me, that’s bliss. Right now I use FileThis to grab my account statements for various things, but the process has some quirks. And it would be nice to have that built into Evernote vs. making the connection. Just a thought.

  • Wesley H Cowley

Just updated evernote app on my iPhone 6. App loads, then after a second crashes, goes back to phone home screen.

  • Nancy Jo Adams

The new releases is crashing on BOTH iPhone and iPad Pro.

    • Pamela Rosen

      Hi, there!

New ver 8.0 crashes immediately on my iPhone 5S running iOS 10.1. It won’t even load at all. Your replies here tell people to send a Tweet to your tech support. But I don’t use Twitter (yes, there are a couple of us out there). Is there an email address I can send a help request to?

    • Pamela Rosen

  • Joe

I just upgraded to 8 through iTunes, and now Evernote won’t even start on my iPhone 6S+ !

  • Larry D. Shankle

Where is presentation mode? It disappeared from my phone! I use this for work. It’s one of the reasons I’m a premium customer. Please explain…thanks!

    • Pamela Rosen

Larry, Presentation mode is no longer available in Evernote for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch. You can use AirPlay to mirror your screen, or you can use presentation mode in Evernote for Mac or Windows. Check out our Help Document about what’s new: https://help.evernote.com/hc/articles/115000827848. To learn more about how to use Presentation Mode from desktops, visit https://help.evernote.com/hc/en-us/articles/208314488. Thanks so much! –Pam R

      • Rolf

I agree with Larry; the presentation mode was a very useful tool for swift presentation of notes with business partners, often more useful than Keynote/Powerpoint. I am really surprised that you remove an already well established feature. Thus, I would urge you to re-introduce it on a later update, as Evernote just lost a severe part of it’s functionality on mobile devices.

        Regards,
        Rolf

      • Philip Stancil

I agree with Larry and Rolf. Presentation Mode is the primary reason I pay for Premium. I rarely use Evernote for Mac. I mostly use it on iOS, and now the primary feature I pay for has been removed… Not much reason to renew next year.

I appreciate simplifying and streamlining things, I do. Evernote as a company definitely got bloated at some point, and I know you’ve been paring back down. However, Presentation Mode is a very useful, and closely related, feature to note-taking. Really want this back on iOS, or I personally have zero reason to continue paying next year.

      • John

Did it ever occur to anyone at Evernote that people might want to READ their notes?

Presentation mode was perfect with a dark background that was easy on the eyes, smooth scrolling, and the ability to full screen swipe sequential images within a note.

No, let’s make sure subscribers have to be blinded by a white background in low light setting. Let’s make Evernote nothing more than a “File and Forget” TRASH BIN for dead notes.

THANKS FOR KILLING OFF A PAID FEATURE!! Yes, indeed, this was a Premium feature that REQUIRED I pay a subscription to get.

What a sad and horrible decision!

  • Ben Kraus

Scrolling my notes on an iPhone 6 REALLY lags!

  • Anthony

Love the new look and functionality. I kinda miss having the shortcuts on the first screen. That’s where I put all the stuff I need to access quickly every day. Nonetheless, it’s still great. It’s a nice refreshing look. Looks similar to the web version!

Any plans on updating the Mac app? It looks so plain and boring. Lol.

  • Stephen

Since Evernote continually over the years makes me feel like a second class citizen and portray to me an iOs snobbery by not even mentioning Android, (BTW I have both iOs & Android before fanboys lose it) I’ve refused to use their products on any device and certainly wont (as I used to) recommend them to others. Shame this aloofness exists, but comes across very clearly.

    • Pamela Rosen

Stephan, The Android app doesn’t have exactly the same challenges as the old iOS app, so many of the design changes we’ve made there aren’t relevant to Android. Evernote for Android has already seen some great design changes in the past few months, and new features include Google sign-in, Google Drive Integration, and the ability to switch accounts quickly if you have a business account.

That said, we’re always updating the apps and looking for opportunities to iterate on our Android design and make it even better. So, based on what people think after using the new iOS design, we may bring some things, the new note snippet design in iOS for example, to Android. To be among the first to try out new Android features, join our beta community at https://plus.google.com/communities/104510054128618368971 -Pam R

      • Stephen

Appreciate the response. Sadly doesn’t change the perception and also the reality Pam that Windows and Android changes are always Evernote 2nd class citizens. As a (at point for many years) paying customer I’ve watched what is a very bias approach to Apple only and got so fed up I stopped paying. Look at the mentions of iOs on your blog and those that mention Android. It’s about 30 to 1. Again I have three platforms so not just Android vs iOs.

My humble opinion is you build a release and ideas and put out a version for ALL your customers at the same time. Trello does it and many, many others, and people like me with three platforms get a consistent UX and feeling we are valued not our platforms.

  • Heidi

The 8.0 version crashes instantly when opening on iphone 6.

    • Pamela Rosen

Hi, Heidi! Thank you for letting us know about the crashing issue. Some customers have reported this, and we’re actively monitoring it. Nice work on the UI, and grateful for the new formatting options.

  • Eric

Why do you hate Android so much? It’s a far more capable platform yet it’s always on the back burner.

    • Pamela Rosen

Eric, The Android app doesn’t have exactly the same challenges as the old iOS app, so many of the design changes we’ve made there aren’t relevant to Android. Evernote for Android has already seen some great design changes in the past few months, and new features include Google sign-in, Google Drive Integration, and the ability to switch accounts quickly if you have a business account.

” and new features include Google sign-in, Google Drive Integration, and the ability to switch accounts quickly if you have a business account.”

Those features were added to all the systems, and you try to pass them as an Android exclusive.

Fact is taht you treat Apple developement in a totally different level that the other platforms. I think we all pay the same, isn’t?

  • Hatef

Every text editor worth its salt has a dark mode these days to reduce eye strain. It’s 2017 folks, how can you ignore such a basic feature?

  • Ruth

Crashes on IPad!!!! I don’t have time for this!! My whole evening’s work now impossible. Thanks a bunch.

    • Pamela Rosen

Hi, Ruth–this is an issue we’ve become aware of today. Some customers are experiencing crashes at launch. We’re actively working on a solution. Great update for speed but what did you do to REMINDERS? Changing on the fly is now and meany headed beast dragon that shifts focus to the day of new reminder time. Why? What happened to sorting reminders by upcoming? Changing a list of today’s reminders is now a nightmare no Matthew how much faster and smoother the app runs (and it does – thank you for that!) now please fix

    • Pamela Rosen

Kim, The ability to sort reminders by due date is no longer available, but we’re tracking customers’ requests. We will definitely let the team know that customers like you are asking for this feature back. -Pam R

  • Bennett

The UI changes are looking great!

However, why is it I still can’t search for Evernotes contents in Spotlight Search, only the titles? This seems like a big miss.

On my iPhone/iPad, I like to search for a topic across all my apps, hence the use of Spotlight Search. It’s very handy to search for something like “customer X” across Emails, iMessages, Calendar, etc., but Evernote won’t show results if it’s in the note contents and not the title.

Is indexing with Spotlight Search too much task? Even Google Keep can do this!

  • Marc

Separate accounts – not a fan for our company workflow. This should be an option, not a mandate. I love Evernote and have been a user for a long time. Impacting our workflow with separate searches? It’s not about being pretty, but functional. Apple Note is pretty, but not as functional. Global workflow changes are reasons why companies move from products. I hope this feedback makes it back to your internal folks.

    • Pamela Rosen

Marc, Thanks for writing in. I can assure you that we take your comments quite seriously, and management reads every single one. -Pam R

  • Tim

How do you annotate a pdf in Evernote 8.0? On the iPad this feature is now greyed out? It is available for pdfs that I previously marked up, but not for any new ones. I even went to the desktop app and marked one up to see if that opened the door, but it is still greyed out.

    • Pamela Rosen

Tim, This is an issue we’re aware of and we’re working on it. Please open a support ticket for this issue here: https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action, and as soon as we have a solution, we’ll notify you. -Pam R

Still waiting for the Mac update.

  • KarenQ

When I’m typing in a note, I cannot figure out how to hide the keyboard in the new upgraded version. I can only see a small part of the note while the keyboard is on screen. This was easy to hide in the last version. Help?

Karen, I’m sorry you’re experiencing this issue. We have been made aware that this is happening to some customers, and we’re actively working on it. will there be a similar update for macOS?

  • Matt

Looks like I will have to remain downstairs on my desktop computer. I can’t peruse my reference notes for ideas because the nested tag feature is still not available. Come on 3rd party developers. Please fix this! I’d pay for an iOS app that would support nested tags. I want to work upstairs on my iPad Pro.

Widget is still s***. Why can’t the compact version show the shortcuts to create new notes? I don’t want note previews showing up on widget screen so widget is completely useless unless expanded to show new note shortcuts.

  • Manfred

Evernote 8.0 won’t start on my iPad Air with iOS 10.2. I.e: after the start I see an empty window and than Evernote stops

  • Kristoffer Galskjøt

Well done. Looks like a lot of careful attention has home into this. Cannot wait to see all the new space in the formatting area to become populated with features such as the ‘ruler’ for dividers in in notes and the much needed tables feature. Search and organization is great… Maybe the shortcuts baa can be re-thought… It does waste a lot of dark space on my iPad Pro.
Next improvement opportunity should be to get the editor up to date. Good job. Thanks.

Looks like there was an update today and now Evernote won’t open on my IPad? A real nucance as as I have some notes I need for a meeting in about half an hour.

What happen to the duel column card view? I don’t understand why this would be removed. You are visual able to see more cards at one time then any other view. Very disappointing. I really wish I could downgrade. Bummer.

    • Doc

Also the ability to smart sort is gone. For example when I had to files called say: “file-1”, “file-20”, “file-100” it will sort them 1, 100, 20. Whereas before it would correctly sort 1, 20, 100.

Furthermore as many others the app is unusable now as it crashes within a few minutes of starting.
      Total bummer.

Are there any plans to bring back the Presentation Mode feature for iOS? The feature works well, and it has been an important part of my workflow since you introduced it and spent a lot of effort pushing the feature. It is one of the few features that distinguished Evernote from the (cheaper/free) competing services. Now I’m forced to lug around a laptop rather than use my mobile device for all of the presentations I have prepared.

Great update this is exactly what I was wanting from Evernote! A more simplistic UI and and quicker note taking abilities. I had Simplenote installed only for creating notes quickly and now I don’t need it! Keep up the great work!

Just downloaded the upgrade to the iPhone app. Have just wasted 5 minutes trying to work out how to get back to the home screen so that I can upload a photo of an expense receipt. I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but…..how do I get to the camera in the app?

Just opened my apps on both Iphone and Ipad…….. both crash. Come on Evernote, unacceptable. First privacy issues, then posting a holyday blog post on Dec 27 followed by this. Are you people trying to run the company into the ground?

  • Phillip

I also had problems with crashing on open but a reinstall did fix this. However, even since the reinstall I still find the app quite unstable and it crashes regularly. One thing that seems to consistently cause a crash is when I try and view a PDF attachment in a note.

  • Vladimiro

Frankly this update was a disaster, had to reinstall app in both iPad and iOS to make it work, and still, on my iPhone7, i can’t view PDFs in my notes, i only get a “?” icon and when i tap it opens the share options. PDF viewing was already a very weak feature in Evernote, so i was waiting for a better approach, now i can’t even see or open any of my PDF notes (and i use Evernote ONLY to store documents in PDF).

    • Pamela Rosen

Vladimiro, Thanks for writing in with your comments. You should be able to see PDFs. Please contact support via DM (Direct Message) on Twitter at @EvernoteHelps. You can also open a support ticket at https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action. -Pam R

EN 8.0: If you open a notebook and do a search in the notebook to find notes with the word you are looking for those notes appear. BUT…it is only the first one which you can look into. If you try the second or third note it opens the first one!
    Coul you fix that?

    • Karl

      Coul you fix that?”

Indeed a bug: when tilting your iPhone to panoramic view, the screen jumps automaticaly back from the selected note to the first note of the note book…

  • JeanG

Looks good… but a huge step backwards with reminders. A strength of Evernote reminders was : it was possible to have an order of treatment distinct from the order of deadlines – for each notebook ! For example, a note should be “done” at the end of next month but I could order it as first, or second… note of the list of my tasks because I decided to begin work on it in the next days ! It’s no longer possible ! It was the way of working with reminders I found just because Evernote allowed it. How can it suddenly disappear ?
I can still work that way on my Mac (for how long ?), but my Mac doesn’t sit in my pocket.

  • Christian Müller

I like the update so far – although I do vote for nested tags 😉 – but I can’t get rid of 17 notifications. Where can I delete them? Thanks in advance.

  • Jason

Still can’t change the sort direction?

  • makingamark

Following the 8.0 update, the app is now unavailable on my iPhone. It refuses to open.

I’m a premium customer and will be asking for a REFUND for non-supply of the service you have contracted to provide if the current problem with the Evernote app being rendered completely inaccessible on my iPhone is not fixed within 24 hours of the latest update. The whole point of an app like this is that one can depend on it for important documents which you don’t need to physically carry with you. Once you render the app unavailable on an iPhone you do MASSIVE DAMAGE TO YOUR BRAND.

I can now NO LONGER TRUST THIS APP when it releases an update with a fault as major as this one.

I have recorded my views in the Apple App Store and I did not mince my words!

  • Michael Smith

I downloaded the latest version for iphone. It doesn’t work. It crashes every time I open it.

Can’t open and work it on iPhone 5S (ios10.2)

  • Alison

+1 for presentation mode being re-introduced and +1 for bringing the functionality available on the desktop to iOS and Android. Selling everyone on presentation mode then removing it, especially without anything in the upgrade notes on the App store, is incredibly inconsiderate. Telling us to use another piece of hardware that we may not have available is also thoughtless. Also, why are there no longer any suggested titles? And I can’t see all of my account information without logging on to the website.

    • Pamela Rosen

Alison, this feature is no longer supported, unfortunately. We are getting requests for it, and we’re tracking them. We will definitely let the team know that customers like you would like this feature back! -Pam R

Reinstall worked for me (on iPhone)! New app loooks great!

  • Tollak Bowitz

Why did you remove the option of sorting notes after ‘due-date’? Or is there another way of seeing all upcoming deadlines (todos) based on this criteria? Having them based on date of creation is not really helpful.
    Any solution would be appreciated.

  • Wayne Austin

I seem to be among the many for whom the iPhone update has rendered the app useless. It won’t launch — keeps crashing. Advice from Pam below it to tweet to Evernote, but I don’t tweet. Advice to non tweeters it to open a support ticket at https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action , but that link takes you to a support page that tells you to open a support ticket instead. • Florian

I am a Premium user for years and EN is an important part of my workflow. But how do you expect me to continue paying, if you take away existing functions? That is not reliable and comforting at all! I am used to seeing as many notes as possible in the snippet view. Now I see 4-6 in a list and a giant portion of the screen is the first note….Makes it very hard to quickly spot a note you are looking for, without having to search. The thumbnail preview gave enough idea about what one was possibly looking for. So how do I get that back. Not to mention the fact, that most of the time EN on iPad Pro is lacking or crashing…..what a desaster!

    • Pamela Rosen

Hi, Florian, Unfortunately, it is not possible to downgrade Evernote to a previous version once you’ve updated. For crashing issues, this is something we became aware of yesterday, and we’re actively working on it. It is affecting a small percentage of customers, and we apologize for the inconvenience. Some of our customers have reported that reinstalling the app clears up that issue, so do please try that. For the rest, I recommend that you contact support. You have two options: send a tweet to @EvernoteHelps, or submit a support ticket to https://www.evernote.com/SupportLogin.action . Thank you for your support of Evernote, and for taking the time to tell us of your difficulties so we can help you. -Pam R

  • Alec

Hello. Unfortunatly the new update has contributed to the deletion of one of my most important notes (with two contributing bugs). I will explain the problem:

First, creating a blank note within the application temporarily causes a black note to appear within the app. This blank note dissapears after a couple of seconds. If the user deletes this note before the system removes it automatically, the system will immediatly delete the next note in the feed (by default the last-edited note).

Second, deleted notes within the application are no longer sent to the “trash” notebook. They are deleted permanently instead.

Together, these bugs caused the permanent deletion of my class assignment schedule and long-term planner. This is obviously very disappointing. Otherwise I do enjoy the update. Thank you.

    • Pamela Rosen

Alec, that is not something that should be happening! Please contact our support team right away by sending a DM (direct message) tweet to @EvernoteHelps. • Alec

Thank you Pam. I do appreciate the direction of the update. The new layout is more approachable and usable on the mobile platform – very fun to see the progression of Evernote services!

  • Michel

Works fine on my iPad Pro and iPhone 6s so far. It’s so much easier to use as before and I like the text formatting a lot. I’m loving it!

  • Larry

On my Ipad, the navigation buttons that are touted as being on the bottom of the screen are on the left side, whether in portrait or landscape mode. How do I set it to be on the bottom?

  • Larry

What about nested tags?? That would be the one feature that I would love, and it seems like a lot of others as well

  • Gene Combs

I upgraded my iPAD 2 with Version 8 and now, Evernote won’t initialize.

        • Pamela Rosen

Gene, Yes, everything will be there when you reinstall; all your data lives in the cloud. -Pam R

  • Pete

I too have experienced the crashing problems. But apart from that … the problem with this update is that tags have become much less useable and searchable. As stated by someone else, all the emphasis in the update is on notebooks. But the way I manage my notes is almost entirely by tags. In essence the folks at Evernote have decided that I need to use Evernote they way that they use Evernote. I’ve been an Evernote evangelist since 2008 and have been a Premium user for years. But I’m very disappointed and am open to alternatives.

  • Allie

I hate the new update- please switch it back or make it an option

  • Ron Vassallo

Great update. Nice job of simplifying and prioritizing options. Have an iPhone 6S and no problems. Highly recommend…as always.
