Scan to Evernote in 1-step with a ScanSnap

Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M

Scanning into Evernote is a great way to bridge your physical and digital worlds. If you’re anything like me, then you probably have pieces of paper, business cards, documents, and precious napkins thrown across every available surface. Unlike me, you probably don’t have a compulsive urge to scan everything within arm’s reach. But you could! All you have to do is set up your scanner just right, and you too will be one click away from having all your stuff in Evernote.

Scan to Evernote utility

Just in time for partner month, the great folks at Fujitsu created a nifty configuration utility that will set your Fujitsu ScanSnap Scanner to the optimal settings for use with Evernote. For now, it’s Windows-only. We hope to have a Mac version soon. Download the utility »

Setup

Setup is quick and easy:

  • Make sure you have the ScanSnap Manager software installed
  • Next, download and run the utility

The utility will create two profiles in the ScanSnap Manager: a “Document Scan” profile for created PDF scanned documents and a “Notes Scan” profile for everything else, including anything with handwriting.

Manual setup instructions are available here: http://evernote.com/fujitsu

No ScanSnap? No problem.

If you don’t have a ScanSnap, there’s a good chance that you can still configure your scanner to work with Evernote. The general idea is to have your scanner send scans to Evernote.exe (PC) or Evernote.app (Mac). The step-by-step instruction may vary from device to device.

Evernote and Cliqset: A permanent memory for your social stream

It all began innocently enough: a few Facebook messages here, some Twitter updates there—nothing to worry about. Next thing you know, you’re subscribed to videos on Youtube, book ideas on Goodreads, friend’s locations on Foursquare, and music recommendations on Pandora. Now it’s getting crazy. What started as a trickle has become a deluge of updates pouring in from every conceivable direction…and we love it! But there’s a problem. It’s all gone as quickly as it arrives. There’s simply no good way to pluck something out and save it forever. Until now.

Say hello to your social memory

Cliqset, the place to share, discover, and discuss content from everywhere on the Web, now integrates with Evernote. So, whenever something of interest appears anywhere in your social stream (links, posts, updates, reviews, photos…), you can grab it and send it directly into your Evernote account for safekeeping. Just imagine it, a permanent, searchable, always accessible memory for all of the social stuff you care about. Pretty neat.

And there’s more. Not only can you pick items out of your stream, you can also create new notes and send them into Evernote, or send them to multiple places at once.

How it works

First, sign up for a Cliqset account. Then, add all the services that you’re a part of, including Evernote. Next, find and follow your friends on Cliqset. And you’re done. Whenever you see something you like, or think of something you want to remember, click the Share button and click on the Evernote icon. Easy.

Partner month spotlight: Nokia N900

We’re kicking off Partner Month with a bang. Nokia recently released their new Evernote Sharing Plug-in for the N900 smartphone. The plug-in turns Evernote into a completely integrated part of the N900 mobile experience. There’s no need to launch a separate Evernote app. Take a photo and Evernote’s there to accept it. Scribble a note and Evernote’s ready. Nothing to launch, it’s all just beautifully blended together.

The integration

Nokia built the new Evernote Sharing Plug-in using the Evernote API to allow users to easily send photos and other content directly into their Evernote accounts right from their N900 using the phone’s native sharing functionality.

How it works

Once installed, the Evernote Sharing Plug-in adds Evernote as a sharing service to a number of device’s native applications. For example, you can use the amazing camera on the N900 to take a snapshot, then use the Sharing Plug-in to send it into your Evernote account. You can even title your note and add any relevant tags. To browse through all your notes, make a shortcut to our N900-optimized web version at www.evernote.com/mobile.

Get it now

Go to the Nokia Ovi Store to get the plug-in. Please note, the Evernote Sharing Plug-in is designed for the Maemo platform.

Integration Spotlight: reQall

reqall-flag2

Here’s a short tale of my list-making woes: I’m going shopping and I need olive oil, so I write down “olive oil.” This somewhat sensible decision quickly turns into 20 minutes spent staring blankly at the supermarket’s wall of olive oils. Or when traveling, I’ll write “visit the Corn Palace” only to misplace any relevant information about its history or importance.

You’re right, I should be more organized, but this whole process needs to be easier. My lists shouldn’t be denser, they should be smarter. Enter reQall’s Evernote integration.

reQall in their own words

reQall is a voice-enabled memory aid that seamlessly integrates your mobile phone, email, text messaging and IM into a powerful organizer, reminder system and productivity assistant. reQall lets you capture your ideas, tasks and commitments before you forget, and it proactively keeps you well-prepared and memory-strong.

Integration spotlight: JotNot for iPhone

evernote-jotnot

JotNot for iPhone is a nifty app that corrects your less-than-perfect photos and sends them into Evernote. Whether you’ve taken a snapshot of a business card at a wacky angle, a photos of a whiteboard under poor lighting conditions, or an off-kilter receipt, JotNot will magically fix contrast and let you correct the angles—turning your snapshot into a straightened, cleaner version of its former self. It’s like turning your iPhone camera into a scanner.

The results are pretty impressive, and (here’s the best part) it’s great for Evernote.

How to Unclutter with Evernote and Rubbermaid in 4 Steps

We hope you’re enjoying our Summer to Unclutter series. In the spirit of the season, we’d like to share a story of how we conquered the clutter in our own office. Don’t miss the surprise at the end of this post.

A few months ago we moved into a sunny new office space. While most of the office looked nice and clean, our storage closet quickly began to resemble a garbage heap.

mess

Around this time, we came across a great post on Rubbermaid’s Adventures in Organization Blog, in which Jim Deitzel and crew helped a lucky subscriber take control of a messy garage with the help of some know-how and a few nifty Rubbermaid containers. We were inspired. So much so, that we came up with a simple 4-step method that uses Evernote and Rubbermaid to help you stay organized for good.

4-steps2

  1. Pack it: Fill your Rubbermaid storage box
  2. Label it: Place a clearly written label on the container
  3. Snap it: Use your cameraphone or digital camera to snap a photo of the label and container contents
  4. Note it: Add the photos into Evernote, then title the note. You can also type a quick list of the box contents. If you keep the containers in different rooms, make sure to note where the containers are located.

What’s where

By using this method, you will always know exactly what you’ve stored and where everything is. A quick search in Evernote will show you photos and contents of each container. And don’t forget, Evernote works on your computer and phone, so you can access this information whenever you need.

Rubbermaid giveaway (it’s over)

To help jump start your uncluttering project, we’ve teamed up with Rubbermaid for an exciting giveaway. We’re giving away four Rubbermaid gift packs. Each gift pack contains four 15-quart storage boxes and three 18-gallon storage boxes.

Integration Spotlight: AP Mobile for iPhone

ap-integration

Talk about a perfect match…

The latest release of the very popular Associated Press application for iPhone lets you effortlessly clip AP articles into your Evernote account. Here’s the scenario: you’re browsing through the latest local, national, and international news on your iPhone when you stumble across a story about a man caught smuggling 91 lobsters in his jacket. You think to yourself, “I must get this into Evernote so that I’ll have it forever, but how?”

Why this is cool

The AP Mobile application allows you to access enormous amounts of news and information whenever you’re out and about. Thanks to the integration, you can now save any article and access it later from any version of Evernote that you use —mobile, desktop, or web. Also, all articles clipped from AP Mobile retain their source URL, so you can always go back to the original or easily share it with friends.

How it works

That’s it!

How they did it
