Scanning into Evernote is a great way to bridge your physical and digital worlds. If you’re anything like me, then you probably have pieces of paper, business cards, documents, and precious napkins thrown across every available surface. Unlike me, you probably don’t have a compulsive urge to scan everything within arm’s reach. But you could! All you have to do is set up your scanner just right, and you too will be one click away from having all your stuff in Evernote.

Scan to Evernote utility

Just in time for partner month, the great folks at Fujitsu created a nifty configuration utility that will set your Fujitsu ScanSnap Scanner to the optimal settings for use with Evernote. For now, it’s Windows-only. We hope to have a Mac version soon. Download the utility »

Setup

Setup is quick and easy:

Make sure you have the ScanSnap Manager software installed

Next, download and run the utility

The utility will create two profiles in the ScanSnap Manager: a “Document Scan” profile for created PDF scanned documents and a “Notes Scan” profile for everything else, including anything with handwriting.

Manual setup instructions are available here: http://evernote.com/fujitsu

No ScanSnap? No problem.

If you don’t have a ScanSnap, there’s a good chance that you can still configure your scanner to work with Evernote. The general idea is to have your scanner send scans to Evernote.exe (PC) or Evernote.app (Mac). The step-by-step instruction may vary from device to device.

Win a scanner at MacWorld

On a related note, for a chance to win a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner – come see Evernote at MacWorld in the Fujitsu booth (Booth #853).

Yippee! Maintenance and upgrade are complete. Evernote is 100% (more or less) up and running. You can go back to sync’ing, viewing, editing, and doing whatever else it is you do with your notes.

We want to sincerely thank you for your patience. There’s never a good time to have an extended scheduled maintenance period, and we hate having them during the day, but this one was such a big upgrade that we thought it was safer to do it while people were fully awake and call centers were still open. Just in case. Normally, our service updates are quick, painless and at night; which is probably why you never noticed them.

The good news is, it’s finished. Now, Evernote is ready to grow and grow and grow without any compromises in speed, reliability or quality of service. These are exciting times.

Special thanks to our fantastic operations team (looking at you, Dave, Galen, Chris, and Dan) for making this happen. Two months of planning + five hours of racking and unracking servers = a very happy elephant.

The new Evernote for Windows just got a nice update (version 3.5.1). We’ve addressed a bunch of issues and improved on existing functionality.

Check for updates or download the latest»

Enhancements

Added the ability to hide the note editor and left-hand panel

Improved tab key support in note editor window

Added multi-touch support

Made it easier to edit note creation and modification dates

Added ability to enable/disabled spell checking and configure language preference

Improved text handling

Addressed a number of application stability issues

Evernote window no longer visible when application is launched minimized

Improved stability during note synchronization

Better delete/undelete support

Added numerous performance improvements

Fixes

Resolved problem with screen turning blank after hibernation

Fixed crashiness during startup on some Windows XP installations

Resolved problem with note attachments

Resolved problem with tagging notes in the note editor

Resolved problem with deleted attachments

Compatibility issues

We have identified a couple compatibility problems. Computers with the NVIDIA Quadro NVS video card are unable to run Evernote 3.5. Also, some users have reported font blurriness, which appears to be caused by an underlying incompatibility between .NET and some older video cards and drivers. In both cases, we are working with the manufacturers to find a resolution. Users affected by these issues should continue using Evernote for Windows 3.1 until they are resolved

Note to Evernote 3.1 users

If you’re using Evernote for Windows 3.1, we encourage you to try 3.5 by downloading it directly. 3.5 and 3.1 can coexist on the same machine, so you can decide if you’re ready to make the switch. There are many changes in 3.5, and more are still coming, so we do not want to auto-upgrade 3.1 users until we’ve worked out an easy migration strategy.

Evernote has grown very quickly over the past year, and it’s time to give our servers and facilities a major upgrade to ensure that we can keep growing without a hitch!

We will be performing some maintenance on the Evernote Service on Saturday, February 6th from 11am through around 4pm Pacific Time (1900 to 2400 GMT). We’ll be bringing up servers as they’re ready, so some users will have access to their accounts sooner than others. We’re sorry for any inconvenience that this downtime will cause.

What to expect

Once the maintenance period begins, you will no longer be able to perform any operations that require access to the Evernote Service. These include, synchronization, image recognition, emailing to/from Evernote, and the @myEN Twitter integration. Desktop versions of Evernote will continue to function.

How will I be affected?

Different platforms will be affected in somewhat different ways. Here’s what to expect:

Evernote on the desktop

If you use Evernote on Windows or Mac, then you will see the smallest disruption. You will still have access to all of your notes, but you will not be able to sync any new content until the service comes back up.

iPhone and iPod Touch

If you are a free subscriber, then you will be able to create notes, view your favorites, and see any notes that you had previously viewed or created on the device. If you’re a Premium subscriber, then you will be able to access any/all notebooks that you’ve previously marked for offline access. In either case, you will not be able to sync any new content. Please anticipate any notes that you’ll want to access during the downtime and either view them, favorite them, or download the notebook(s) that contain them before Saturday.

Android, Palm Pre, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile

If you use Evernote on a device listed above, then you will be able to create new notes, but will not be able to access any of your existing notes.

Evernote Web and Mobile Web

Evernote Web will be completely unavailable during the maintenance period.

Why we’re doing this

Our goal is to ensure that you have the best possible experience using Evernote. This was true when we had 10,000 users and it’s true now that we have 2.3 million. Saturday’s upgrades will help us continue to do so for years to come.

We’re excited about the shiny new Evernote!

It all began innocently enough: a few Facebook messages here, some Twitter updates there—nothing to worry about. Next thing you know, you’re subscribed to videos on Youtube, book ideas on Goodreads, friend’s locations on Foursquare, and music recommendations on Pandora. Now it’s getting crazy. What started as a trickle has become a deluge of updates pouring in from every conceivable direction…and we love it! But there’s a problem. It’s all gone as quickly as it arrives. There’s simply no good way to pluck something out and save it forever. Until now.

Say hello to your social memory

Cliqset, the place to share, discover, and discuss content from everywhere on the Web, now integrates with Evernote. So, whenever something of interest appears anywhere in your social stream (links, posts, updates, reviews, photos…), you can grab it and send it directly into your Evernote account for safekeeping. Just imagine it, a permanent, searchable, always accessible memory for all of the social stuff you care about. Pretty neat.

And there’s more. Not only can you pick items out of your stream, you can also create new notes and send them into Evernote, or send them to multiple places at once.

How it works

First, sign up for a Cliqset account. Then, add all the services that you’re a part of, including Evernote. Next, find and follow your friends on Cliqset. And you’re done. Whenever you see something you like, or think of something you want to remember, click the Share button and click on the Evernote icon. Easy.

The Evernote API

Cliqset built this integration using the Evernote API. Join Cliqset and over a thousand other developers that are using the Evernote API to create powerful new applications. Check out our Developer page »

We’re kicking off Partner Month with a bang. Nokia recently released their new Evernote Sharing Plug-in for the N900 smartphone. The plug-in turns Evernote into a completely integrated part of the N900 mobile experience. There’s no need to launch a separate Evernote app. Take a photo and Evernote’s there to accept it. Scribble a note and Evernote’s ready. Nothing to launch, it’s all just beautifully blended together.

The integration

Nokia built the new Evernote Sharing Plug-in using the Evernote API to allow users to easily send photos and other content directly into their Evernote accounts right from their N900 using the phone’s native sharing functionality.

How it works

Once installed, the Evernote Sharing Plug-in adds Evernote as a sharing service to a number of device’s native applications. For example, you can use the amazing camera on the N900 to take a snapshot, then use the Sharing Plug-in to send it into your Evernote account. You can even title your note and add any relevant tags. To browse through all your notes, make a shortcut to our N900-optimized web version at www.evernote.com/mobile.

Get it now

Go to the Nokia Ovi Store to get the plug-in. Please note, the Evernote Sharing Plug-in is designed for the Maemo platform.

From iPhone apps to web services to hardware to…a Linux version (it could happen), third party developers are really making the most of our remember-everything-sync-it-everywhere platform.

This month, we’re celebrating their work.

Over the course of February and into March, we’ll be announcing tons of new integrations, showcasing our great partners and holding some fun and informative events (more info coming soon). Stay tuned for a fun month.

Have something cooking?

If you’re currently working on an integration that might launch in February, let us know. This is a great time to get the word out about your work.

Have an integration idea?

We built Evernote to be good at a specific set of tasks, which leaves the door wide open for the developer community to create the killer integration. If you have an idea and would like to get started, check out our developer section for information on our API and scripting options.

Evernote is free. You can use Evernote forever without paying us a cent, and we’re ok with that. To some, this may seem crazy, but thanks to Evernote Premium, it’s actually a business model that works (see: Freemium model).

Today, we’re announcing that there are more ways than ever to go Premium. We now accept credit card payments with Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and JCB. These are in addition to Google Checkout, PayPal and in-app purchasing through the Apple AppStore. We’re also offering 3-months of Evernote Premium for free through TrialPay. Click on the TrialPay option on our Checkout page for more information.

Go Premium now »

Why go premium?

Supersized monthly uploads

Your monthly upload allowance will be increased from 40MB to 500MB. Each month, you get reset to a fresh 500MB.

Attach and sync files

As a free user your notes can contain text, audio, images, and PDFs. Once you go Premium, you can put any type of file into your notes, including Word docs, PowerPoint presentations, Photoshop files, and just about anything else. Then, watch as these files sync and become accessible from anywhere.

Offline notebooks on iPhone and iPod Touch

Take any and all of your notebooks offline. Not only does this make accessing your notes faster, but it also means you can browse and search even when there’s no network connection available.

Search through your PDFs

When a Premium user throws a scanned document PDF into Evernote, we run it through our servers making the text searchable.

Collaborate with others

You can share your notebooks with individuals and the world through Evernote Web. Premium users can allow other to both view and edit their notes, turning Evernote into a great collaboration tool.

And more…

No ads in the desktop and web versions

One business day response for your support requests

Priority treatment by our image recognition technology

Better security through SSL encryption

Always remember

You can switch from free to Premium and back to free at any time and you’ll never lose anything you created while you were Premium.

Evernote loves tablets. We’ve got a long and storied history with tablets of all kinds. Got an old tablet lying around somewhere? Chances are we either developed technology for it, had applications that ran on it, or both. Usually both.

Remember the awesome Apple Newton? Evernote’s current R&D engineers developed the handwriting recognition technology that made it so notable (and ahead of its time). Remember those Doonesbury strips making fun of the Newton? You know who cried when those came out? We did. Well, not me personally, I was in college and the Newton was at the top of my unattainable gadget drool-list, but the guys sitting next to me right now clutching their Newton prototypes while watching the Apple liveblogs did. I’ve got those Donnesbury strips in my Evernote account now.

We’ve also been on just about every other form of tablet known to man. The original version of Evernote was written to run on Tablet PCs and the digital ink technology in the current version of Evernote for Windows is still the best in the industry. I even use an old Hitachi slate as a drink tray at home. Tablets are our roots, man. Our roots.

So naturally, we’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about our plans for supporting Apple’s hitherto-mythical tablet device, but we’ve avoided answering them just in case it turned out not to be a tablet but, um, a shoe or something. Still, we always hoped it’d be a tablet. You always remember your first love…

Anyway, now that the iPad has officially gone from “imminent!!” to “just announced!!” we can officially spill the beans on our official plans for Evernote on it. Here’s we go:

Evernote is going to support the Apple iPad. Oh Yeah. We’re gonna support the hell out of it. We’re glad to see that the current Evernote iPhone app will run on the iPad without modification, but we’ll be modifying it anyway to optimize the experience on the larger device. Oh how we’ll be modifying it! Expect rapid improvements to our iPhone app which will benefit all of our iPhone, iPod Touch and, now, iPad users in the near future.

Ok, so we’re excited by the iPad itself, and by the HP Slate, and the Sony VAIO L series, and the Nvidia Tegra, and by the added light that these and other devices will shine on touch computing in general. I’m looking at some happy engineers right now.

You know that amazing feeling you get when you cross the finish line after running a full marathon? Me neither, but I imagine it’s similar to what we’re feeling right now. After over a year of development and months of extensive beta testing, the new Evernote (version 3.5) for Windows is here, it’s out of beta, and it’s pretty awesome.

Download the new Evernote for Windows »

We’re staggering the auto-update process. If you have been using the Windows 3.5 Beta and want to upgrade, go to Tools>Options>Upgrade to pre-releases. Evernote 3.1 users should download the new version.

Why this is huge

The new Evernote for Windows is…well…new. Completely new, in fact. We rewrote it from the ground up to make it faster, more reliable, and just plain better than Evernote for Windows has ever been. The first thing you’ll notice is its revamped interface. The new look, complete with thumbnails, is great for quickly browsing and searching through your notes. Once you start using it, you’ll notice improvements to text editing, tagging, screen clipping, digital ink support, and tons more. Our goal was to use everything we’ve learned since our launch to make a great Evernote experience on Windows.

Ideal for switchers

Lots of people move among multiple computers and devices as part of their daily routine. The last thing you want is a wildly different Evernote experience on each platform. A major consideration for us in developing this application was uniformity—making sure that you could go from using Evernote on your Windows machine to Evernote on your Mac and back again without thinking about it. Now you can.

Latest and greatest

This means that not only it is more functional and stable and works great on Windows Vista and Windows 7, but we’ll be able to roll out continuous improvements faster than ever.

So, so, so much more…

Here’s an (almost) complete list of all that’s new and better in Evernote for Windows version 3.5. If you’ve been following us through the beta process, then you may have seen some of these already.

Three different ways to view your notes

Thumbnail view: Rendered thumbnails showing the contents of your notes, images, and PDFs for easy browsing and filtering

List view: Multi-column “List View” with sorting on any column

Mixed view: Mixed thumbnail + detail view

Zoom thumbnails to see more detail

Display thumbnail or mixed views in visual groupings by date, size, source URL domain, and start of title

Joshua on Evernote

If you are tired of trying to keep track of every detail in your life, it’s helpful to look for tools that can offload some of that mental overhead. One of the best tools I’ve found for doing this is Evernote – it’s a fantastic (and powerful) note-taking tool, which helps to capture all sorts of different types of information. I’ve implemented Evernote both in my own business and with my clients in a variety of ways to help them streamline some of their processes and save them time. Here are a few ideas for how you can do the same:

6 Ways Evernote Can Boost Your Productivity

1. Snap your scrap paper

Instead of trying to rework how you do everything, try using Evernote in little pieces. Start by taking snapshots with your cell phone of all the scraps of paper that you have scattered around your office – your sticky notes, the backs of envelopes, scrawls on napkins, etc., and then put them all into Evernote where they can be searched later. You don’t have to stop using your written notes right away, but over time, you may find yourself needing them less and less as you transition to using Evernote more and more – especially as you discover how handy it is to be able to search your notes and actually FIND what you’re looking for!

2. Capture the whiteboard

Meetings with other professionals can be productive, but taking notes can be a real chore. At your next meeting with a client, vendor, or consultant, instead of frantically writing down notes from the meeting and trying to copy everything that’s written on a whiteboard, try snapping a photo of the whiteboard with your phone, and send that pic to Evernote. Since Evernote can read the handwriting in the photo, you’ll be able to easily search for and refer back to that whiteboard later on when you need it.

3. Share the love

If you work with clients and you’d like to share information with them, set up a shared notebook in Evernote dedicated to that client. In it, you can capture clips from web articles they might like, snapshots of resources that they could find useful, ideas for upcoming meetings or sessions, or links to online applications they may find helpful in their day-to-day lives. This can be a HUGE value-add to your clients and the people you serve – not only are you introducing them to a new tool (Evernote), but you’re populating their notebook with stuff they’ll be interested in.

4. Wrangle the receipts

I work a lot with clients on financial organization – keeping track of the money is super-important in the world of business and in life. When you’re busy and on the go (and who isn’t?), it can be a challenge to keep track of your receipts and other expense items. Instead of losing your receipts or stuffing them into a box, bag, or drawer, try snapping pics of your receipts and send each of them to a “receipts notebook” in Evernote. That way, they’ll all be captured in one central area.

5. Tie up your travel

If you travel for your business (or even just for pleasure), create a notebook dedicated to each upcoming trip. In it, you can keep any notes you have about an upcoming meeting or trade show, along with the agendas, location, maps and any venue information. Also, this is a great spot to keep details about your travel – flight confirmations, hotel and car reservations, and the like. You can even collect clips about restaurants, local attractions, and other fun things that can help you enjoy your trip more.

6. Centralize your storage map

You can also use Evernote to keep track of the storage in your home or small office. Take snapshots of everything that’s on each of the different shelves and inside of the different drawers, cabinets and containers in your storage system. Now, instead of having to dig through a shelf, drawer or closet, you can just go on your computer and quickly scan and review what’s there – making it easier for you to access and retrieve those things that you actually want at the moment when you need them. If you have multiple people in your business, you can share this note or notebook with them as a team reference.

Any one of these strategies can help gather your information in a central spot, and can definitely help save you time. Try a few different ways of using Evernote to boost your productivity – I think you’ll be surprised at how much it can help you!

Organizing meetings can be an incredibly tedious and annoying process. From making sure that everyone’s schedules are in-sync to getting all the slides and notes in order, there’s just a lot of constantly shifting stuff to deal with. Argh! That’s why we’re really excited to announce our newest API integration: TimeBridge. Together, TimeBridge and Evernote are here to save the day (and your meetings).

TimeBridge in their own words

TimeBridge is a web application that makes it incredibly easy to schedule and lead great meetings—and follow up after you meet. Think of us as your calendar-wrangling, agenda-making, note-taking, team-motivating, secret weapon in the battle against workplace inefficiency. In short, we exist so that you can be a meeting hero!

Now with Evernote!

TimeBridge used the Evernote API to allow meeting participants to easily save all the notes from a given meeting directly into their Evernote accounts. This is great because you’re now able to easily search and find every meeting note you’ve ever taken in one always accessible spot—your Evernote account. You can even share your meeting notes by creating a Shared Notebook or by emailing the notes to colleagues.

Special offer for Evernote users

For a limited time, the generous folks at TimeBridge are offering any Evernote users that upgrade to TimeBridge Plus a $20 Starbucks gift card. To take advantage of this offer, sign up for TimeBridge using this link.

The Evernote API

Learn more about the Evernote API on our developer page, and join the hundreds of developers currently working with the Evernote API to create new and exciting integrations.

Evernote for Palm Pre (and Pixi) gets a great update today. The latest version (1.0) adds a number of features and improves on existing functionality. You can now create snapshot notes from within the application, check off to-do items, download PDFs and other attached files, and more. As always, Evernote is available for free through the Palm App Catalog.

Native snapshot notes (with location)

You can now create snapshot notes without leaving the Evernote app. Just tap on the Snapshot Note option in the new note screen. After you’ve taken your photo, you will be given the option to add text, tags, and assign the note to a specific notebook. As a bonus, snapshots taken within Evernote will capture your GPS location, allowing you to plot them on a map later.

Snapshot notes are great for taking photos of everything from business cards to wine labels. Once the image arrives in Evernote, we run it through our recognition servers, making any printed or handwritten text searchable. Give it a shot.

Load files and PDFs

Evernote for Palm Pre lets you download and view files that are attached to your notes. Simply tap on the file to download it. Once downloaded, it will launch in whatever native viewer you have for that file type. You can attach new files from either the desktop or web versions of Evernote.

A note on file attachments: Free users can attach images, audio, and PDFs to their notes. Evernote Premium subscribers can attach and sync any type of file. Learn more about Evernote Premium »

Checkbox and to-dos

You’ve created an itinerary or shopping list using Evernote on your desktop. Evernote for Palm Pre now lets you check off the items in your list as you go. Nice and simple.

Edit pending notes

Once you finish making a note, the note is placed into a Pending queue while it waits to be uploaded to the Evernote Service. In this latest update, Evernote for Palm Pre lets you make changes to notes in your Pending queue.

Languages!

Evernote for Palm Pre is now available in French, Italian and German.

And lots more…

There are lots of other under-the-hood improvements, including native support for the camera roll, better handling of accounts with large numbers of tags, and more. Go on and explore.

The New York Times named Evernote one of its Five Tech Themes to Watch in 2010!

“Evernote, the popular note-taking service, recently announced it had hit a major milestone by surpassing two million members. But the company’s victory signals a larger shift in how the Web – and our mobile phones – are becoming a larger repository for our memories. Companies like Evernote are paving the way, but expect to see more entrepreneurs and start-ups vying to supplement our gray matter with silicon.” [via NYT, read full article]

We couldn’t agree more. Evernote’s goal is to help the world remember everything. Ambitious? Yes. But, in these days of information overload, it’s absolutely critical.

Stay tuned for an exciting year.

We just released version 3.2.1 of Evernote for iPhone which adds some nice improvements to the major update we put out last week. Check for updates or get it from iTunes. Here’s what’s new:

Locally cached notes and offline notebooks are now excluded from iTunes backup, so syncing your device with iTunes is much faster than before.

Fixed several issues when migrating from previous versions, including the sometimes incorrect display of offline notebook sizes for Premium users.

Further improvements in sync speed

Improved the ability to extend an existing Premium subscription from within the app

Removed the standard “Turn off Airplane Mode or switch to WiFi” message when app is launched in Airplane Mode, since all locally stored notes and offline notebooks are fully accessible even without a data connection.

Fixed a bug that prevented the manual sorting of Favorite notes.

Lots of general enhancements and fixes

A note on editing

Say you have a note that contains some fancy formatting—usually something you created on the desktop. Now you want to go in an make a change to this note from your iPhone. Evernote gives you two editing options.

Append text to the end of an existing note

Create a plain text copy of the note that you can edit (a copy of the original is placed into trash if you wish to recover it).

This only applies to rich text notes. You can always go in and add text to simple text notes, web clips, snapshot notes, or audio notes.

“What do you want for Christmas?”, Robert De Niro asks Jean Reno in Ronin, just before engaging in some spirited gunplay. “My two front teeth.”

Well, all we wanted for Christmas was two million users. And we got it, big time, pushed over the line by great numbers from our recent Android and iPhone launches! And we did it in about half the time it took us to get our first million.

Obviously, we couldn’t have gotten two million users without, um, our users. So here’s what you did to make it possible:

We love our present! Thank you!

Talk about a holiday gift! The Apple AppStore elves work in mysterious ways and they just approved the biggest Evernote for iPhone (version 3.2) in months! What’s new? Offline notebooks! Speed improvements! Better note editing! Longer audio recording! And, as if that wasn’t enough, you can now go Premium from within the app. Get Evernote for iPhone now from the App Store »

As always, please reboot your phone after installing a new application.

Local note caching

All notes that you create or view on the iPhone will be cached locally, so you can view them again even without a network connection. This feature is available to all users.

Premium feature: Offline notebooks

Premium users can now choose to be fully downloaded any and all of their notebooks to the device, making them instantly accessible even when offline (or on a plane). Tap on the new Sync tab and choose Offline Notebooks to configure this feature.

The larger the notebook the longer it will take to fully sync, but the plus side is you only have to do this once. For fastest results, we recommend doing this over Wi-Fi. Please note that the app will not be able to download all your notes if you select more notebooks than the available space left on your device.

[Important: There's a small bug that inaccurately displays notebook sizes for premium users if you upgrade from the previous version of the app. Deleting the app from your phone and reinstalling fixes this.]

In-app purchase of Evernote Premium

Want to go Premium to take advantage of the new features? Now you can. You’ll be able to buy a month or year of Evernote Premium right from the new Sync tab in the app.

Double the talkity talk

This latest version doubles the length of Audio Note recordings, to a nice 20 minutes.

Local searching

Searching now works offline, so you can search through your Favorites, cached notes and offline notebooks. If you have a network connection, the app will automatically search through both the notes on your phone and on the server.

Editing rich-text notes

If you try to edit a note that contains formatting, pictures or attachments, you’ll be given the option to append the new text (as before) or make an editable plain-text copy of the note. If you chose to strip out the formatting, a copy of the original note will be moved into the trash so you can recover it later.

New “Sync” tab

All of the Sync and Account features are now consolidated into one tab with real-time status of all sync operations.

Ability to search while synchronizing

The dreaded “already communicating with the server” message is gone for good. So long. Good bye.

Easily see all your notes

A new “All Notes” button when searching or filtering makes it easy to get back to all your notes with one click.

Zippy

Every aspect of Evernote for iPhone is much faster: launching the app, searching, syncing, making new notes, browsing, etc. Our goal is to let you use Evernote without ever having to even notice the speed and this version is another big step in that direction.

Additional languages

Evernote for iPhone is now available in English, French, German and Russian with limited (but quickly growing) support for Japanese, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Swedish, Portuguese and Chinese.

The new Evernote for Mac release (v 1.6.0) comes with lots of great updates. Download the latest now»

Tons of notes

Evernote for Mac 1.6 dramatically improves speed and performance for accounts with large (LARGE) numbers of notes. This is a welcome enhancement for you active Evernoters out there. All aspects of your Evernote experience is now much faster. For those of you still growing your Evernote database, you can feel good knowing that Evernote will always be snappy, even when you have you thousands and thousands of notes in your account. Something to look forward to.

Emailing notes

Emailing notes out of Evernote for Mac got a nice upgrade. Notes are now sent directly through the Evernote Service, which provides a much more consistent and reliable user experience. This will also make life a lot easier for those of you that rely on webmail instead of using a desktop mail client. The From email address will be the one that we have on file for your account. To change that email address, log into Evernote Web and go to the Settings section.

And more…

Improved performance when displaying search results in large PDFs

Dragging a URL onto the dock icon works consistently

Another attempt to fix issues with the Safari clipper toolbar button experienced by some users

Resolved issues with right-click Save As… option

Fixed a display bug in the quota meter

Numerous other fixes

Say hello to the newest member of the Evernote family: Evernote for Android. After months and months of development, we’re incredibly excited to unveil this shiny new version of Evernote. As you would expect, Evernote for Android is free and available in the Android Market.

Capture everything

Evernote for Android allows you to create text notes, snap photos, and record audio. In addition, you can easily attached files to your notes. Free subscribers can add PDFs, text, audio, or image files. Premium subscribers can attach any file they like, as long as the total note size is under 25MB.

When creating your notes, Evernote for Android lets you specify titles, tags, and destination notebooks.

Find all your notes, any time

Evernote for Android comes equipped with native note browsing, which means that you can easily browse and search through all of your notes. Thanks to Evernote’s synchronization features, all the notes you make in the desktop or web versions of Evernote are instantly accessible from your Android phone—and vice versa.

There’s also Evernote’s image recognition, which automatically recognizes text contained within snapshots—this is great for everything from business cards to wine labels to whiteboards.

Different views

When viewing your notes, Evernote for Android lets you choose between a fancy thumbnail view or a simpler list view. If you’re on a speedy network, then opt for the thumbnail view. If you’re on a slower network, or one that charges based on data use, you can go with the slimmed-down list view. Your choice.

Check the menu

To maximize the amount of visible space, we placed a bunch of functionality into the Android menu. Click your phone’s Menu button, and you’ll be able to browse notes, set location awareness, view Saved Searches, and more.

Where you at?

Evernote for Android captures your location whenever you create a note. It then lets you find that note by proximity to your current location. To activate this feature, go to the Settings menu and make sure that the location settings are enabled. Once a connection is made, the “Notes Near Location” option will appear in the main Evernote menu.

And much more…

This is only the beginning. We have big plans for Android in 2010, so stay tuned.

We also want to give a special thanks to all of the people that helped us iron out the kinks during the beta period. You rock!

Speaking of which, if you were a Beta tester, then you need to uninstall Evernote and reinstall it from the Market.
