For the past year, we’ve had a single goal: becoming your second brain. We made it easy to capture and find all of your ideas and inspirations using (almost) all the devices you own. We’ve even been called “the anti-social app“, for our unconventional determination to focus on what’s on your mind, not just the mind of your friends. Ok, maybe we call ourselves that. Today, we’re broadening our view.

Now begins Phase 1 of our major effort to help you share (and collaborate on) the stuff you’ve collected with individuals, groups, and the world. Introducing, Evernote Shared Notebooks. [cue fanfare]

What’s new?

Using Evernote Web, you can now specify individuals that are permitted to view, and in some cases modify, your notebooks.

How it works

In your Evernote Web account, you will see a new, blue Sharing section in the navigation panel. Click on “sharing setup” to begin the process of sharing your notebooks. Select the notebook you wish to share, then decide whether to share that notebook with individuals or the world.

There are two additional options under the “Share with individuals” category:

Share with individuals (view only)

Share with individuals (view and modify) – Evernote Premium feature

For added security, you can require log in, which means that the unique link in the email your invitees receive can only be used by a single person and they’ll be asked to log in before seeing your notes.

Modify my notes (Evernote Premium only)

While all users get the ability to share their notebooks, Evernote Premium subscribers can also grant modification privileges: add, edit, and delete notes. You don’t need to be Premium in order to perform the modification, but you must be Premium in order to allow for modification of your notebooks. It’s important to note that any additions will affect the notebook owner’s monthly upload allowance. Learn more about Evernote Premium »

Linking notebooks into your account

We also made it really simple to keep track of any notebooks that have been shared with you. Whenever you visit someone’s shared notebook, you will see a “Link this to my account” button in the top right corner. Clicking that will add the notebook to your Evernote Web sharing section so you can jump back to the notebook any time you like. Try it now by linking this aspiring super villain’s notebook into your account.

New look

For those of you that published your notebooks in the past, you will see a new interface. The new look is closer to our standard web layout, and is much easier to scan and navigate. We also wanted to make sure that individuals unfamiliar with Evernote would get a consistent web experience throughout the application.

If this is Phase 1, what’s Phase 2?

You (our wonderful users) have been clamoring for selective sharing for some time. So, we decided to make it available in phases as we build out the functionality. Right now, most notebook sharing functions are only available through Evernote Web. Soon, you will be able to share right from your desktop or mobile Evernote. Like with everything else we do, sharing will be everywhere. Our developer API has already been updated to support the new sharing features, and we can’t wait to see what you all come up with.

If you want to join us on the first step of this ambitious journey, you can do three simple things: (1) Make some notebooks that you want to share, (2) invite your friends, (3) tell us how to make Evernote better.

Where do you use Evernote?

Evernote for Mac on my Macbook

Evernote for iPhone

I use Evernote most often on my iPhone, and also to access the notes that I have captured on the go on my desktop computer at home. I travel a lot and have found that searching through my Evernote notes on the iPhone is far faster than doing multiple Google searches. I try to leave the house with only a small purse, and being able to capture images and notes on my iPhone allows me to travel without a notebook, pen or additional camera.

Which features have you found most useful?

Definitely the image search functionality —I often take pictures of things that I see that I think might make for a good article. When I get home, I can sort through all of these images, grab additional ideas from the Web with the clipper and get inspired to write.

Your Evernote story

I came across Evernote two years ago, but really started using it consistently after downloading the iPhone app last summer. I use the application mostly for my blog, capturing ideas, pictures and notes that form the basis of my posts, but I have also found it very useful when performing research for my forthcoming book, Unclutter Your Life in One Week.

While writing my book, I frequently used Evernote’s Web Clipper to capture information from the Web, ensuring that it would be easy to find in the future and that I would be able to access it from anywhere.

My husband is also an Evernote addict —he is currently using the iPhone application to create a list of all of his favorite words. Recent entries include: burgled, pancakes, irascible, sturgeon and pontoon.

What was your last note in Evernote?

My last note was a newspaper article that I clipped about a guy in Maine who had so much clutter in his yard that the city had to come in and clean it up. My husband’s last note is the word ‘pants‘.

Ever since Apple announced plans for the new iPhone 3.0 a couple of months ago, we’ve been hard at work rebuilding Evernote to take advantage of the platform’s new features. Today is the big payoff: iPhone 3.0 officially launches and our new app is ready to go! Get it now from the App Store.

This is a major upgrade for us. There are two main reasons to be excited about Evernote for iPhone 3.0: the great stuff that we put in, and the even greater stuff that we’ll be able to add in the near future. So, what’s new?

Beefy synchronization

We’ve completely rewritten the data synchronization part of the application to take advantage of the new iPhone 3.0 capabilities, so that info about all your notes (but not their entire contents) is now synced locally on the device. This means that you can scroll through thousands of notes without interruption and without ever seeing the dreaded “load 25 more” message. It also means that filtering on tags, attributes, notebooks and locations can now be done without ever hitting the server, so it’s virtually instantaneous. Also, note content is now cached more aggressively, so pulling up a previously-viewed note is very quick. If you have a lot of notes, Evernote may need a couple of minutes to sync your note list the first time you launch the new app.

No pending

This new data handling functionality also means that there’s no longer any need for a “Pending” tab —pending notes are now displayed in the normal note list and you can edit them at any time, even before they’ve been synced!

Where in the world?

We love maps, and Evernote 3.0 for the iPhone’s got em! You can push the “pin” button at any time to see all of your notes displayed on a map. The numbers indicate how many notes you have in a particular area, and zooming in will break up the groups until you can see each individual note as a pin. Now, if you want to quickly remember the name of that great pickled mustard herring you had in Stockholm last summer (mmmm), just thumb the map over to Sweden and there it is.

Instant groups

The note views now lets you group your notes by date, title, notebook, city or country. You can also instantly jump to a different group by taping the index bar on the right of the note list (or on the bottom, if you’re in landscape mode), or scroll your finger over the index bar to fly through your notes at breakneck speed. Once you get good at using groups, maps and index-jumping, you can quickly get to any note without ever having to search.

Advanced Searching

Of course, you can still search through your notes and we’ve made that better as well. Advanced search options are now easier to use and many types of searches can be performed without ever having to touch the server, so they’re really fast. You can also instantly jump back to seeing all your notes at any time.

Way better audio

We’ve given the audio recorder in Evernote a lot of attention and now it’s much better than before. We doubled the recording time, halved the number of required button presses, and dressed it up in a spiffy new skin. If you haven’t tried making voice notes in Evernote before, give the new audio recorder a shot. It’s so slick now that we can’t stop playing with it…

Cinema-quality Landscape View

Try holding the phone sideways in the note list view. Now add a few thousand notes and try it again. It’s a drool-worthy visual timeline of your notable life.

Mercy for your fingers

We’ve eliminated several steps and small buttons when making snapshot and camera roll notes. Now you can snap a picture and send it to Evernote with just a couple of clicks. If you want to add a title, tags or text to your photo (or any other) note, just pull it up from the note list —even if it’s still pending.

Plays nice with others

Evernote for iPhone 3.0 now supports in-app integrations with iPhone apps from other developers. Several exciting Evernote-aware apps should be launching really really soon! Stay tuned and we’ll blog about all of them.

General improvements and bug fixes

This is our third major version of Evernote for the iPhone, so there’s a lot of improvements under the hood.

More on the horizon

Just as important as the new features that made it in to this release, is the fact that Evernote 3.0 for iPhone is the most powerful mobile platform we’ve ever built and it’s going to let us do things in the future which we couldn’t even dream if doing before. So what are we dreaming about now? Well, we don’t want to make specific promises (and some of them may be a long way away), so we’ll just hint at three things for now: sharing, local search, calendar integration, to-do management, audio search, compass use and memory training. Wait, that’s seven things. Dammit! Suffice it to say there will be lots of amazingly cool features coming soon.

Works on all iPhones and iPod Touches

Upgrade your existing iPhone or iPod Touch to the 3.0 firmware, and you’ll be all set to run the new Evernote. Of course, if you’re lucky enough to get the new iPhone 3G S, you’ll notice that, thanks to the fantastic new camera and faster speed, it’s pretty much the perfect Evernote device.

As always, Evernote 3.0 for the iPhone is available for free from the App Store. Remember that your Evernote app is happiest when it gets to sync across all of your computers and mobile devices, so if you haven’t already done so, make sure to download us for Mac and Windows as well!

It may still say version 2.0 in iTunes, while all the Apple servers update.

Evernote for Palm® Pre™ is here. It’s the newest addition to our rapidly growing family of remember-everythingamajigs. Get it now from the Palm App Catalog. Visit our Palm Pre webpage for screenshots and additional information.

What does it do?

Evernote for Palm Pre lets you capture your experiences and inspirations instantly as they occur, and then find them whenever you want. It allows you to create text and snapshot notes on the go, edit existing text notes, and search through all of your memories, even those created on your desktop or the web. Evernote for Palm Pre also lets you open and view multiple notes at once, launching a new “card” for each.

Don’t forget to try our image recognition. Take a photo of something containing printed or handwritten text, send it into your Evernote account, give it a minute to process, then try searching for the text. This is great for whiteboards, business cards, wine labels, signs, scribbles, and more.

Mmmm…thumbnails

You can easily toggle between two view options. One gives you thumbnails along with some meta-information (title, date), while the other shows a wall of note thumbnails —perfect for quick browsing.

Now, where was I?

Evernote takes full advantage of the Palm Pre location awareness capabilities. Whenever you create a new text note, Evernote captures your location and associates that with your note. Later you can search for notes created within 5 miles of where you’re standing. So, say you’re visiting headquarter and want to find the notes your took on your Palm Pre the last time you were there. All you need to do is launch Evernote, tap the Search button, and tap Search Nearby. Voilà.

More to come

The Palm Pre is a brand new platform, so we’re just learning the ropes. You can look forward to more great features and functionality in the not-too-distant future.

Which features have you found most useful?

The super awesome web clipper. I like using my mouse to select the area of the page that I want to remember

What’s your Evernote Story?

I just bought a house. Can’t begin to tell you what a headache it is. Remembering where all the documents you need are, looking for the best deal on; mortgage rates, home insurance, moving trucks, etc. If there’s a deal to be had, I want it. That’s why I’m all over the internet, crawling the web for the hottest deal that no one’s caught yet. So at first, I was using Evernote as my deal repository.

Now that I have the house, I have a new issue: how do I paint it? I never thought color was so difficult. You think you like a color… until you put it on the wall. So I decided to start looking for ideas from people who know what they’re doing. Interior designers, graphic designers, design websites, design bloggers, design tipsters… anyone who’s got ideas, I want to take a look at them. But especially with color, it’s super hard to remember. Was that the exact blue I saw? What kind of brown was that? I’m a visual person, but I’m not that visual. So I used Evernote to remember decors, painting tips, color combination’s, find palettes of colors to make sure you wouldn’t get a heart attack looking at that red next to that purple. In short, Evernote’s my personal interior decorator.

What’s was your last note in Evernote

A web clip from the website, Kuler, for color combination ideas.

Evernote for iPhone

Which features do you find most useful?

The ability to tag notes makes searching much easier and quicker, especially when using the iPhone version.

What’s your Evernote story?

Back in November I made a driving trip from Los Angeles to Napa and decided to try it as my first paperless trip, using Evernote as my traveling brain. I used Evernote on my iPhone and Dell Mini laptop to store driving directions, maps, hotel confirmations and other details that I would normally have printed out. It worked beautifully!

Before we left
I created a spreadsheet of dates and the places we’d be visiting every day; I pasted that into a note in Evernote and titled it, ‘trip schedule’. I found a map of Napa wineries (a PDF) and dragged it from my desktop into the program. I used Google maps to plan our route and grabbed screen shots of the maps and pasted them into a note in Evernote, along with the driving directions. I emailed my Evernote account with hotel confirmations.

During the trip
I mostly used Evernote on my iPhone and it worked great for accessing all those notes that I had created beforehand. We had two people in the car (my husband and I). I did the driving and my husband did the navigating. The tags worked out great. I tagged everything with ‘San Francisco Trip‘ and then used other specific tags for even quicker searching. For example I tagged all my hotel confirmations with the tag ‘Hotel‘. When I needed to call them up we just searched for the word ‘hotel‘.

What was your last note in Evernote?

My last note in Evernote was a photo of a label from a bottle of wine I really liked. I uploaded it into my notebook called “Wine.”

We recently launched Evernote for BlackBerry with support for the BlackBerry Bold, Storm, and Curve 8900. Now, Evernote is available for the very popular BlackBerry® Curve™ 8300 series smartphones. The series includes, BlackBerry Curve 8300, 8310, 8320, 8330, and 8350i.

What can I do with Evernote?

Evernote helps you remember everything that you experience using almost any device that you have within arm’s reach. Type notes, snap photos, or record voice memos in Evernote on your BlackBerry then access those same notes on your Windows or Mac computer. It works the other way, too. Clip a webpage, draft a blog post, or attach a file in Evernote on your desktop and then find it all on your phone.

Get Evernote on your BlackBerry

Evernote for BlackBerry is available from BlackBerry App World or the BlackBerry page on our site. Over the Air downloads are also available.

Which BlackBerry smartphones does Evernote officially support?

Evernote officially supports all models of the BlackBerry Curve, BlackBerry® Storm™, and BlackBerry® Bold™ running on Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, Nextel, Alltel, British Telecom, Vodafone (UK), and Rogers.

What if my device/carrier isn’t on the list?

If your device or carrier is not on the list, then we do not officially support it. You can still try installing Evernote, but we cannot guarantee that it will work as advertised.

Evernote for Mac got a nice update today adding a new export option and a bunch of great usability enhancements. Check for updates or download the latest

Quick Look attachments

You can now view attachments from within Evernote using the handy Quick Look feature. Simply click on the Quick Look button in the attachment box or use the CMD+Y keyboard shortcut. This also works the other way; you can now Quick Look your Evernote notes in Finder or Spotlight.

Don’t forget, upgrading to Evernote Premium lets to you attach any type of file to your notes. Learn more on our Evernote Premium page.

HTML export

Data portability is very important to us. We believe that you should feel comfortable putting your data into Evernote with the knowledge that, if you want, you can always take it out. In addition to our XML export, we’ve added the ability to export notes as HTML. To do this, select the note(s) you wish to export, click Export in the File menu, then choose HTML as the export format. All of your meta-information (tags, source URLs, etc) is preserved in the HTML source code.

All notes button

This new button lets you instantly clear out any searches and filters that you may have and resets the view to All Notebooks. You can access this feature either by clicking the button or using the CMD+R keyboard shortcut. Why didn’t we put this handy button into the Mac client before now? We have no idea.

Other great improvements

‘Save As’ now works for audio files contained within notes

Improved and simplified menus – we’ve scrubbed every menu with a fine-toothed-mixed-metaphor-comb to make them all consistent

Numerous bug fixes throughout

I’m delighted to announce that, less than a year after leaving closed beta, Evernote now has more than one million registered users! That’s a lot of people. It’s enough to make us the 10th largest city in the US or the 155th largest country in the world (take that, Djibouti)! Think of it this way: if you queued up every Evernote user single-file, there would be a million people in that line.

We wanted to make Evernote useful to anyone who values what’s in their brains, people that have substantive things that they want to remember for work, school or play. I’m really happy (and relieved) that there are enough of you out there to give us such a quickly growing business.

It took New York City 250 years to grow to a million people. It took AOL nine years. Twitter got to a million users in about a year and a half. We did it in less than one.

And, of course, we got here the hard way.

The conventional wisdom on how to make a fast-growing Internet service goes something like this: (1) make it web-only, (2) load it up with active social and viral features, (3) go after the young people who’ll try anything new, and (4) don’t worry about revenue. We did the exact opposite: native downloadable software, nothing inherently social (yet!), a user base made up of college students and older professionals, and a business model that’s got us pointed at profitability in the not-too-distant future.

So, if you’re one of the thirty people who works at Evernote: thanks for the insanely hard work this past year! You just built something that a million people use! How cool is that?

If you’re one of the million people who use Evernote: we can only say thank you for finding us and for sticking with us! We’ve got a ton of great stuff coming out soon, which will make your external brain the envy of all your friends.

If you’re one of the other six billion, six hundred and thirty three million people on the planet: come on in, we’re saving you a spot.

Evernote and Pixily have teamed up to help you get rid of all the paper that clutters your, very un-paperless, life. From documents to scraps to receipts, everything is digitized by Pixily and made available in Evernote for easy access any time you like –you barely have to lift a finger.

In their own words

Pixily is an interactive document management service that helps consumers and small businesses be more organized and efficient. Our users send paper documents to Pixily. Upon receipt, Pixily scans, categorizes and uploads the documents to a customer’s web account, where they can be securely accessed by authorized users from any location.

Why this is cool

Evernote is a single place for all of the things you want to remember. Now with Pixily, you can keep all those piles and piles of documents right next to your notes and webclips and snapshots all accessible in Evernote the instant you need them.

How it works

Collect all your papers and place them into a pre-paid Pixily envelope. If an envelope just won’t suffice, Pixily also has pre-paid UPS boxes. Once they get your documents, Pixily scans everything into your personal online account. From there, simply click on the “Send to Evernote” button and the scans shoot over to the notebook of your choice. Setup instructions are available on the Pixily blog.

Get $10 OFF

For a limited time, Pixily is offering Evernote users a $10 discount. To take advantage of the discount, follow this link or type EVERNOTE into the coupon code field during checkout.

The Evernote API

Evernote on the web

Which features have you found most useful?

Definitely the geo-location data on the iPhone notes.

Your Evernote Story

I am a BMX rider and Evernote has worked out great as a database for all my favorite spots to ride. Here’s how i do it. When I go to a new spot i take a snapshot note on my iPhone in Evernote of a ramp, some stairs, a rail, or whatever. I also jott down a few notes about the spot or any other details that I want to remember. I’ll also tag the note with “BMX” and/or “Skateable” to make finding skate friendly sites when I’m with my skater friends easy.

Now, whenever I am looking for a place to ride I just pull out my iPhone, search for a specific attribute such as “rail” or “ramp” and find the spot. Once I pull up the note i can click on the details to pull up the location right on my iPhone in Google maps. This also works great when I’m out of town visiting places i’ve ridden before and looking for places to ride. With Evernote I can search by location and pull up the spots on my IPhone.

What was your last note in Evernote

A riding spot note in Joplin Missouri. I recently took a trip to Joplin Missouri and of course I rode my bike while I was there. I tagged a bunch of spots around town and saved them in Evernote. It’s nice to know that the next time i go there I have a bunch of spots waiting for me in Evernote.

We recently announced the availability of Evernote for BlackBerry. Since then, many of you have requested a direct download link. You’ll find it below. But first, an explanation of why we prefer to distribute via BlackBerry App World.

BlackBerry smartphones come in lots of flavors: different devices, different operating systems, different carriers. Each of these variables can affect the way that Evernote functions on a device. BlackBerry App World allows us to ensure that only those devices that we’ve tested get the application.

By downloading below, you understand that we do not officially support your flavor combination and, as a result, do not guarantee that the application will work as expected.

BlackBerry App World is still the preferred download method, so please check there before downloading here.

Downloads

There are two installation options. Download the ZIP file and install the application using BlackBerry Download Manager on your desktop. Alternatively, point your BlackBerry browser at the appropriate link to begin an Over The Air (OTA) download. If you have a Storm, please download the Storm version.

BlackBerry (non-Storm): ZIP | OTA: http://s.evernote.com/bbota
BlackBerry Storm: ZIP | OTA: http://s.evernote.com/stormota

Evernote for BlackBerry, you say?

The, much (read: MUCH) requested, native Evernote for BlackBerry is now available. Yes, it’s true. BlackBerry® owners, you now get a slick app to create new notes and search through all of your existing Evernote content.

We’re very excited about this release because, like a BlackBerry, Evernote is designed to fit perfectly into today’s fluid life/work mix. The minute you need to remember something, take out your BlackBerry and use Evernote to capture or recall whatever it is, then go on with your life. Isn’t it nice not having to worry about forgetting stuff?

Features

Evernote for BlackBerry lets you create notes containing text, snapshots, voice recordings, and file attachments. Once created, the new content is automatically sent to the Evernote Service, making it available across all the versions of Evernote that you use. You can also access your existing notes, search by keywords, filter by tags, or simply browse.

It is important to note that features are linked to the capabilities of your device. For example, if your BlackBerry does not have a camera, then you will not see the Snapshot note option. Also, the note searching and display experience depends on the capabilities of your BlackBerry’s built-in web browser. In general, the newer your BlackBerry, the better Evernote will run on it.

Compatibility

Evernote for BlackBerry is compatible with recent BlackBerry smartphones. Currently supported devices are:

BlackBerry® Bold™

BlackBerry® Curve™

BlackBerry® Storm™

More soon (subscribe to this blog or follow us on Twitter to be alerted)

We will release an update shortly, which will add support for some additional devices. Many older BlackBerry smartphones can be upgraded to newer operating systems. Please check with your BlackBerry vendor or carrier. Unfortunately, due to device limitations, some smartphones will not be compatible with Evernote for BlackBerry.

Availability

Evernote for BlackBerry is available through BlackBerry App World in the Productivity & Utility > Personal Organization category.

[UPDATE: A direct download is now available on our BlackBerry page]

BlackBerry App World is designed to only display applications that are compatible with your device, which mean that Evernote will only show up if your smartphone is listed above.

What’s next?

Tons of cool stuff. So, stay tuned.

Which features have you found most useful?

What’s your Evernote story?

I’ve been using Evernote for about 9-10 months now. Since I’m on the road a lot, in places where the only device I have is my phone, it’s great to have something that can capture and store all my thoughts and ideas on the go. I use Evernote to keep track of work projects and the thoughts and processes that go into it, and I also use it to write my music.

For a songwriter, inspiration doesn’t always come at a convenient time. Most of the time, the best songwriting doesn’t happen at a desk. The best songs come to me after a conversation with a friend, a long day at work, while riding the train or walking down the street. I need to capture that moment and easily be able to remember it later on and Evernote has helped me do so in an invaluable way.

Evernote has helped me keep track of my ideas so that I can finish songs whenever inspiration strikes. Whether it’s recording guitar riffs or song melodies to typing in chord changes and song lyrics: Evernote is my place to capture and search for these ideas. I remember one song took me three years to finish because I couldn’t get the bridge right and often times I’d get a great idea but never be able to remember it later. With Evernote, I was able to reference whatever mood, feeling or memory that somehow made the song come about.

Here’s an example of an Evernote text note that ultimately led to the completed song “You Know”

“You Know” by Dave Levy
You know
What they say about broken clocks
But being right was never my intention

Here is the resulting song that Evernote helped me finish, “You Know”

What was your last note in Evernote?
A text note to remind myself to download a song “Vineyard” by Jackopierce from iTunes.

Some time ago we published a post explaining how to scan directly into Evernote for Mac. In this post, I’ll explain how to set up the Fujitsu ScanSnap to work with Evernote for Windows.

Fujitsu ScanSnap

We’re big fans of the Fujitsu ScanSnap for a bunch of reasons: it scans both sides of a multipage document, auto-rotates and discards blank pages, OCRs the text, and, most importantly, can be set to deposit the resulting PDF into Evernote. It has become an indispensable part of my workflow. Every document I have goes through my ScanSnap into Evernote before heading into the recycling bin.

Setting up your ScanSnap

Right click on the ScanSnap manager icon in the task manager and select ‘SCAN Button Settings’ (make sure that the ‘Use Quick Menu’ is not checked)

In the ‘Applications’ tab, click ‘Add or Remove’, then click ‘Add’ in the next pop-up window

Add Evernote by clicking the ‘Browse’ button and navigating to Evernote.exe (in most cases it is in C:\Program Files\Evernote\)

Type ‘Evernote’ for the Application Name and click OK. Be sure to select ‘Evernote’ in the application drop down menu.

In the ‘File Option’ tab, select PDF as the format and check the ‘Searchable PDF’ option (if available). Click OK.

Now, left-click on the ScanSnap Manager icon – you should see Evernote as the selected destination – if this is the case – you are all set up. From now on, whenever you scan a document, it will go into Evernote.

You can also use the Fujitsu ScanSnap with Evernote on your Mac. Steps are almost identical and DocumentSnap has a great blog post explaining how to set that up.

Scanning Handwritten Notes

The Fujitsu Scansnap does a great job OCR’ing printed text, but it does not handle handwritten text. Evernote can help. If you are scanning pages of handwritten notes, our image recognition can make them searchable. To take advantage of this, set up a second profile in the ScanSnap manager to scan your documents as JPEG images, instead of PDFs. Use this profile when you want to archive your notebooks and scribbles.

Using other Windows scanners with Evernote

The instructions vary greatly depending on the scanner and the scanning software you might be using, but there are a couple of general tips that should help you set up your Windows scanner to send to Evernote:

Find your scanner settings (located in the Control Panel, or a stand-alone program)

Look for a way to configure the hardware buttons on the scanner

Set a button to launch Evernote, by pointing it to the Evernote.exe (in most cases it is in C:\Program Files\Evernote\)

Save the settings and try it.

Evernote knows what to do with files sent to it from a scanner, such as images or PDFs. If Evernote is not running, it will launch and create a new note from the received file.

Best thumbnails ever

We designed Evernote for Mac to be a visual memory aide, and easy-to-scan thumbnails are a big part of the fun. We’ve completely redesigned the thumbnails in this release to make them easier to use and prettier to look at. The thumbnails now have different shapes based on the content of your notes; adding a new dimension to your visual memory. They now also sport badges to quickly indicate and identify file attachments. These new thumbnails are available in both Thumbnail and Mixed views.

Other visual enhancements

Visual update to left-hand navigation

Improved the search explanation menu alignment

Improved Mixed View thumbnails and text layout

Updated look for the Monthly Usage meter

There are also a bunch of bug fixes, as well as support for the “audio/amr” file type for both free and premium accounts. If you already have Evernote for Mac installed, just check for updates and grab the new version. You can also download it from here.

For all of you Evernote for Windows users out there, do not fear. There are some exciting updates coming your way soon.
