autosave

Last night, we updated Evernote Web with a small, but very useful, feature: Autosave.

Now, Evernote automatically saves your note every 60 seconds. So, if you accidentally close Evernote Web, navigate away, or are logged out due to inactivity, you won’t lose all your work. Nice.

In related news, we recently launched notebook sharing on Evernote Web. Read all about it in our blog post.

This is good news. Your desktop app can be a memory killer, so I tend to spend more time in the web app, and this actually would have saved my bacon a couple of times. Thanks for this.

This really could have saved me a lot of greif last week

  • Randy Botti

Really need updates for Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4.0

  • SonofGroucho

Does this have anything to do with the fact that I have been getting multiple error messages like this today?

    Unknown exception (com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (NS_ERROR_DOM_NOT_SUPPORTED_ERR): Operation is not supported code: 9 INDEX_SIZE_ERR: 1 DOMSTRING_SIZE_ERR: 2 HIERARCHY_REQUEST_ERR: 3 WRONG_DOCUMENT_ERR: 4 INVALID_CHARACTER_ERR: 5 NO_DATA_ALLOWED_ERR: 6 NO_MODIFICATION_ALLOWED_ERR: 7 NOT_FOUND_ERR: 8 NOT_SUPPORTED_ERR: 9 INUSE_ATTRIBUTE_ERR: 10 INVALID_STATE_ERR: 11 SYNTAX_ERR: 12 INVALID_MODIFICATION_ERR: 13 NAMESPACE_ERR: 14 INVALID_ACCESS_ERR: 15 VALIDATION_ERR: 16 TYPE_MISMATCH_ERR: 17 result: 2152923145 filename: https://www.evernote.com/enweb/ENWeb/E72A109F5AB94910EA4A20A34AF1C661.cache.html lineNumber: 3911 columnNumber: 0 inner: null data: null) during operation (Unknown).

@SonofGroucho That sounds like a job for our support team.

I use the web app excusively. Dumped the windows app a long time ago. Great addition. Autosave. Woo hoo!

  • Wes Perdue

The browser plugin works for me in both Safari 4 and Firefox 3.5. For FF, you must uninstall the old extension, restart FF, and install the new one. I don’t know of any tricks in Safari; it just works. I’m running 10.5.7.

Sorry this is off-topic for this blog entry; I’m just responding to the above comment.

  • Joshua

FF 3.5 won’t let me uninstall the extension – i think it updated to the new one but it still says it doesn’t work.

  • Pablo

Same thing here, lots of errors like that one, in Firefox 3.5, Windows XP.

  • seattle lawyers

that is great news to hear.now more people begin to use this )

I’m using Evernote on my Windows Mobile Phone (soon switching to Android) and on my PC and Mac. Do you have a date for when Ink Notes will work in the Mac client? I mainly use them on my mobile phone.

  • Todd

I use the desktop Windows client on my home computer and the Web interface elsewhere. I prefer the desktop client and don’t think it has any memory issues (using XP) but I’m really glad that you’ve added Autosave to the Web interface. You just keep making a great product even better!

  • X1011

thanks for implementing my suggestion. You could’ve emailed me back, though.

  • Darth Be Not Proud

This would have been a great feature to implement alongside rollback.

  • Sadif

are you guys planning an Android version of this, i love the web/mac app, but not planning on getting an iphone and i think this apps is at its most useful when mobile…

and Japanese localization version for me!!

Getting that same unknown exception error and can’t upload attachments now. Anyone else?

excellent new feature. I still can vividly remember how I felt when all my work was wiped out by a Blue Screen of Death

  • Ann Marie

I really enjoy this new feature. It makes this system a lot more user friendly, and saves me a lot of grief when my computer randomly decides to implode.

  • David Batchelor

This is great. Nothing worse then been half way or further in writing an article, to lose it all :(

  • ameryll

That’s great news for writers like me. Can’t count how many times I’ve lost a document coz I forgot to save.

  • Dennis

Autosaving is great. But it is better if this option can be enable or disable, depending on the personal need.

  • William Furr

Awesome! I lost some notes from a meeting I went to a while ago because I clicked the wrong button. Now I don’t have to worry.

PS – Sorting is also awesome.

  • AB

Autsave would be nicer if the user could adjust it. I personally would prefer to have autosave kick in every ten minutes. Thanks for a great product.

  • Tom Pulaski

I’m using Windows 8 at work and am getting the same sort of error noted by others….
    Unknown exception (com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException etc…

Hope there’s a solution as I now can’t see my notes at work….

  • Susan

I’ve been wondering… how often does the windows desktop version of evernote autosave? Drop me an email if you don’t mind–I can’t seem to find this tidbit of info online anywhere…

  • Jonathan

My evernote is autocorrecting every 30-45 seconds. It is quite annoying. Can I change the setting? Thanks.

  • Hannah

I’d be so much more happy with this feature if I could turn it on or off. I literally just lost 3 hours of work because I accidentally pasted a link over all my work after creating a line to separate the different information.
There wasn’t an undo button, and, of course, it decided to autosave the single link.
So now I’m stuck with no work to show for all my time and no way to get the information back.

    • Andrew Sinkov

Hannah, if you’re an Evernote Premium user, then you can access previous versions of your notes. To do this, open the note on Evernote Web, click on Attributes and Note history.

  • Jeraldine

Evernote on the iphone coming soon? Do you have a date for when Ink Notes will work in the ios client? I mainly use them on my mobile phone. When i recently used evernote i came across this site that is a perfect example of it being used: seattle dui lawyers

  • Levi Wallach

I keep toggling it on and off but so far no phone calls. :(

  • polarise

Did you have to pay Google for the autosave?
